It’s easy to feel like you aren’t where you “should” be and criticize themselves over it. I’ve spoken to so many CPA candidates that beat themselves up because the exam is taking longer than they had planned for. Don't compare and worry about what others are doing. We have such an incomplete picture of what's going on in the lives of others. All we see is the LinkedIn posts from people passing, not the ones from people struggling. Every person has a unique journey and path to take. Just focus on your own and on becoming a little better each day. The biggest obstacle to becoming an accountant is not the long hour! A survey by the Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS) found that the main barrier to becoming an accountant is the overwhelming time needed to study for the CPA exam while working. 43% of respondents said work or personal commitments are why they do not pursue the CPA. They simply do not have enough time for their careers, families, and exam prep. This would not surprise anyone who has experienced the busy season in public accounting.
