I wish we would have systems thinking with lots more of our situations such as indigenous seeds & other resources including knowledge, formal and information education, home industry entrepreneurs and organizations, etc. The 'informal' sectors are a big part of our richness!

Food science at the next level. A good listen. Question is, will programs like this survive the next US Administration? https://lnkd.in/en6ExAWu

Thank you very much #FieldExchange, for this new issue containing new research and evidence so useful and interesting. So far, I have read only the first issue of Natasha Lelijveld , Isabel Potani, Blessings Hendrina Likoswe PhD There are many interesting points that you have discussed, such as dose reduction. Using different protocols that have reduced the dose, such as comPAS and OPTIMA, we continue to have a cure rate that respects the sphere standards. This, coupled with the problem of international stock-outs, means that we need to continue to generate evidence for these approaches, in order to increase coverage, and treat and cure many more children. The situation you have described in #Gaza is real, but we have many other places in #Sudan, #Niger, #Mali with similar situations where we need to act urgently. In our study in Mali that appears in this issue of Field Exchange Acción contra el Hambre together with Noemí López Ejeda and Grupo de Investigación en Epidemiología Nutricional (EPINUT- UCM) , in a 3 arms RCT we have evaluated the effectiveness, coverage and cost-effectiveness of #CHWs treating acute malnutrition with a simplified protocol (comPAS). Here I just want to highlight an unintended result that is important. The proportion of early discharged when implementing a simplified protocol is lower, compared to the application of the standard protocol: first arm at health facilities with CMAM protocol 25.3%, second arm at health facilities and CHWs with CMAM protocol 23.4% and third arm at health facilities and with CHWs using a simplified protocol 9.3%. From an implementation point of view, it is important to take into consideration these real-life situations that we face in the contexts where we work. A summary of all the results available in #FieldExchange74. We need to continue generating evidence that can be continuously evaluated by the World Health Organization. I take this opportunity to share more evidence related to simplified combined protocol with #CHWs in #Niger. https://lnkd.in/dDeME-vv https://lnkd.in/dAndm3ju https://lnkd.in/dq97FYTd

Did You Know? School-Based Food and Nutrition Programs are crucial for establishing healthy eating habits early in life. These programs complement early childhood interventions by starting in schools and helping kids develop lifelong nutritious eating habits. These programs ensure students enjoy nutritious, diverse, and safe meals, which not only boost their learning but also have a positive impact on local food systems and economies. Tera Fazzino, assistant professor of psychology, was featured in today's New York Times article on ultraprocessed foods. Her work studies hyperpalatability: combinations of enticing nutrients — like fats, sugars, sodium and carbohydrates — that activate the brain's reward system in a way that makes people want to eat a lot of them. Read more about how research at The University of Kansas can inform health behaviors and food safety regulations. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gAjqRaBe

Research will be the ultimate way of knowing more about ultra processed food
One of the smartest researchers I know is leading this federal trial on processed food to answer the question: why we fall so hard for “foods” that are making us sick.

DYK? According to FRAC’s new report, school breakfast and school lunch saw a drop in participation after pandemic-era child nutrition waivers expired. School breakfast participation dropped by nearly 1.2 million children from 2022-23 school year compared to the 2021-22 school year, and school lunch dropped by 1.8 million children during the same time period.
