Great article. This is why I think perigon° is adding value around digital media by leveraging ai to give perspective and context on today’s stories and public opinion. I agree with Bezos and think this is an opportunity for the media industry to rise up and become an irrefutable pillar of truth and knowledge for the general public. https://lnkd.in/gmzC7Dkv

From watching the football results through a shop window, to crowding around a newstand to grab sight of the daily headlines (or tuning in to those "extra extra read all about it" cries that presaged clickbait), news consumption has arguably always been bifurcated to an extent... You probably either got the gist (at best), or you paid and got the whole story (and, hopefully, the facts). But this report from The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee paints a picture of how the news ecosystem's polarisation is becoming not just more pronounced, but more dangerous. It's not all doom and gloom of course. There will be winners as well as losers as the media ecosystem evolves. But, rest assured, news consumers, and journalists. are feeling the effects of the ongoing 'information war' - where publishers, platforms and politics are on the front line, as advertisers, AI and algorithms fly over head... https://lnkd.in/eKyvynXk

🌍 September 8th marked the International Day of Solidarity of Journalists 🎙️—a time to celebrate the vital role journalists play in informing and shaping our world. Whether they’re uncovering difficult truths or giving a voice to those who often go unheard, journalists are at the heart of a free and informed society. There’s a misconception that AI and technology are here to replace human resources, but at Echobox, we see things differently. Our mission is simple: to empower journalists, not replace them. 💡 By using the power of AI, automation, and machine learning, we help journalists save time on repetitive tasks so they can focus on what really matters - crafting meaningful, impactful stories. Our technology allows newsrooms to reach larger audiences and improve the impact of their content, so journalists can achieve even better results without compromising on quality. 💻 📈 We’re proud to support the publishing industry by making it easier to deliver important stories, faster and more efficiently. And most importantly, we’re giving journalists the freedom to do what they do best: tell the stories that shape our world. Whether it’s breaking news or in-depth investigative pieces, our tools ensure that content reaches the right people, at the right time. 📰🔍 A big thank you to all the journalists who work tirelessly to keep us informed. Your dedication and passion are truly appreciated! 🙌

🚨 In the age of misinformation, how can we trust what we see online? 🔍 Recent events highlighted a troubling trend: AI-generated visuals spreading fake endorsements in political campaigns. This includes a widely circulated, but false, meme involving Taylor Swift urging fans to support a presidential candidate. Here’s why this matters: - **Misinformation is Evolving**: AI tools are capable of generating lifelike images and videos, making it increasingly difficult to differentiate fact from fiction. - **The Impact on Politics**: False information can shape voter opinions and influence elections, raising concerns about the integrity of democratic processes. - **Empower Yourself**: As voters, it’s crucial to be proactive in verifying information. Here’s how: - **Fact-Check Before Sharing**: Always research claims before reposting to avoid spreading falsehoods. - **Consider the Source**: Be skeptical of the origin of the information and check for reputable sources. - **Utilize Tools**: Leverage digital literacy resources to enhance your media evaluation skills. It's always good to put our present concerns in historical perspective. This wonderful piece from Jon Grinspan is a great reminder that the adjustment to major changes in the media environment takes time and can be chaotic. Something to keep in mind as we think through the ways in which GenAI is starting to reshape our information ecosystem.
