What a week it's been! ⚽ 🌟 "He stood behind me on the pitch every day. He listened, learned, looked, wrote.... and remembered." Sir Bobby Robson on Jose Mourinho as an assistant coach. There's no doubt that Mourinho's coaching quality shone through, but it's easy to pick up the importance of consistency and work ethic here. Willing to be a translator, goalkeeper coach or sport science support... wherever you need him. Three key words in particular that are perhaps overlooked today: - Learned - Looked - Remembered They might seem like little things but don’t take them for granted. Learning in coaching is often associated with formal education opportunities or something you do by yourself away from the club, but the ability to take in information and apply it on a daily basis can be a real difference maker. The 'remembered' piece is a fascinating one... does that extend to recruitment, scouting, personal information (Sir Alex Ferguson also often commended for his memory) or is that something different? Or does it all connect together: remembering little details from personal conversations with his boss to help improve his ability to translate to the team? Either way, he was present and showed up at an extremely high level. It's a great conversation starter for a young coach and a powerful look into the key skills required even at that level.
