Today I attended the Women's Leadership Panel hosted by the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce Economic Club, and wow, what an insightful discussion centered around the crucial role of women in leadership and the collective journey towards a balanced and inclusive workplace. Here are my key takeaways: *Diversity and Balance: The need for diversity, especially gender diversity in leadership roles, is imperative. Despite women making up 50% of the population, there’s a noticeable gap in female representation at the CEO level. Softer skills such as empathy and trust, characteristic of many women leaders, could foster a more inclusive environment that benefits everyone. *Barriers and Opportunities: Factors such as experience, exposure, education, and proximity play significant roles in shaping women’s leadership journeys. Addressing barriers like the lack of voice in male-dominated spaces and transforming them into opportunities for mentorship, sponsorship, and networking is vital for empowering women. *The Broken Rung: Transitioning from an individual contributor role to a managerial position remains a significant hurdle for many women. Fostering a culture that values mentorship, recognizes leadership potential, and encourages active participation is essential in bridging this gap. *Workforce Development: Providing exploration programs that invite women into male-dominated fields and provide mentorship and access to resources for success are proactive steps towards opening underrepresented labor markets to women. *Empowerment through Education and Training: The establishment of institutes and programs dedicated to nurturing women's leadership skills from a young age is a step in the right direction. Confidence building, handling failure, and readiness to seize opportunities are critical areas of focus. Thank you, Jessica Tramontana, MBA, APR (she/her) for moderating and Margaret Dimond, PhD, Lisa Webb Sharpe, Ed.D., and Nicole Noll-Williams C.M. for sharing your insights on the multifaceted nature of women's leadership and the collective effort required to foster an environment where women can thrive as leaders. The journey is ongoing, and it’s clear that we all have a role to play in recognizing, nurturing, and empowering female leadership. #WomensLeadership #InclusiveLeadership #DiversityInLeadership #Empowerment #ProfessionalDevelopment #Networking #LeadershipDevelopment

Findings reveal that despite women leaders fostering more inclusive company cultures and boosting financial performance, they're still falling behind in receiving essential career development opportunities. With fewer women having access to formal mentorship, leadership training, and key executive roles, it's no surprise they're 1.5 times more likely than men to leave their companies in pursuit of advancement. Organizations with a higher proportion of women in leadership shine in inclusivity and boast stronger financial outcomes. Embracing uncertainty brings out women's leadership potential. Many face inner doubts that keep them from pursuing bigger leadership roles. But by shifting mindsets, they can overcome these mental barriers: "I don't have enough support to move up." → Peer mentoring provides an empowering network that advocates for growth across levels. "The obstacles seem too big." → While hurdles exist, companies valuing inclusion perform better. With allies and coaching, real progress happens. "My skills may not fit a leadership position." → You've adapted to countless transitions, showing flexibility. Your current expertise transfers over more than you think. "It's too late for me to make an impact." → Opportunities exist at every career stage. Women of all ages are stepping into expanded roles. The rewards go beyond just career advancement: 1. New-found confidence from overcoming limiting beliefs 2. Authentic leadership presence developed through peer support 3. Fostering true inclusion throughout your organization The path ahead has uncertainties, but you have the resilience, capabilities, and community to embrace them. Organizational progress stands on the will to move forward despite ambiguity.
