International Group of P&I Clubs’ Post

A number of leading Group Club speakers joined the salvage industry at Seatrade Maritime Events' annual Salvage and Wreck Conference in London this week. Amongst the topics discussed, Group CEO Nick Shaw led an engaging conversation alongside Sam Kendall-Marsden and other industry experts on the salvage industry’s preparedness for casualties involving alternative fuels. The session also touched on the difficulties presented when ships in distress are not offered a port of refuge. Capt Ajaz Peermohamed joined a panel looking at how a casualty involving a very large container vessel would be managed, including how industry can best collaborate with government in high profile and complex casualties. Andreas Brachel spoke about how ESG can be incorporated into casualty response efforts drawing a clear distinction between the immediate emergency response and subsequent wreck removal phase. This led to an engaging debate about whether incorporating ESG into casualty response costs more in practice.    Thanks to all the Group Club speakers also including Ben Harris, Nina M. Hanevold-Sandvik and Edward Wollaston.   As the industry grapples with decarbonisation, other ESG issues, War, and Sanctions, increased media interest in wreck removals, plus other emerging risks and issues, not least how to recruit and train the salvors of the future, it was good to see the Group Clubs front and centre in these conversations. #salvage #maritime #PandI
