Ryan’s words ring loud and true. I am living and breathing the ‘…it’s clear that optimising these tools takes more than just basic prompting. The key is combining refined prompt strategies with legal expertise, which can lead to more accurate and insightful results, especially when dealing with complex clauses.’ Out of the box LLM contract review must have a considerable optimisation effort and investment once implemented, if it is not going to disappoint. Once optimisation is done the move to bespoke maximisation for user and industry is relatively…easy… All in a (fun!) day’s work.
Unfortunately I won't be making it to #LegalGeek tomorrow, I'm currently on pre-baby lockdown for the next couple of weeks, but I'd like to share my thoughts I'd put together following the research that Michael Kennedy & Ron Raini recently released titled "The RAG Paper" before I spend the next couple of days enjoying the insights from Legal Geek. I’ve been thinking a lot about how LLMs are transforming legal workflows, particularly in due diligence, and after reading the recent RAG Report from Addleshaw Goddard, it’s clear that optimising these tools takes more than just basic prompting. The key is combining refined prompt strategies with legal expertise, which can lead to more accurate and insightful results, especially when dealing with complex clauses. I've put together my thoughts in my recent blog post: Guiding LLMs to Success in Legal Due Diligence: The Power of Context and Direction - take a look and see what you think. #LegalTech #Legalgeek2024 #GenAI #TheRAGPaper

The legal industry has historically been hesitant to adopt modern technologies, and with limited budgets, it can be challenging to know where to start when selecting a tool. While taking on new solutions has an initial associated cost, doing nothing can be even more expensive in the long term. If you don’t currently utilise technology or have limited or unused solutions in your in-house legal team, you could be costing your business significantly more than you think. Legal departments are overstretched and under-resourced, and adopting technologies to streamline, automate, and optimise your workload can save time, money, and resources. Check out this article where we discuss how, whilst taking on new solutions has an initial associated cost for your in-house legal team, doing nothing can be even more expensive in the long term.
