Do you want to learn more about our Livingsoils initiative! Check below and see its development in Switzerland! #livingsoils #regenerativeagriculture
🌱 Exciting News! Our #LivingSoils initiative is advancing in Switzerland! Building on our regenerative agriculture programs across Europe, Living Soils Switzerland will support Swiss farmers to transition to agricultural systems that combat #climatechange by storing carbon, improving soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and safeguarding water quality. 📊 Thanks to the support of the Pictet Group Foundation, our Scientific Committee, and technical partners, we've developed tailored strategies and indicators for the Swiss ecosystem over the past year. 👩🌾Together with our partners Coop, Eisberg and Hilcona AG, and with the support of the Coop Sustainability Fund, we're working with six vegetable and salad growers in the cantons of Geneva, Solothurn, Zurich, St. Gallen, Thurgau and Ticino to help them adopt more #regenerative practices while minimising financial risk. * 🏛️ Our program is built on three pillars: assessing agricultural systems, providing technical support to farmers, promoting a funding model for a scalable transition. ✨ As such, earlier this year, Earthworm joined AgroImpact, a consortium of Swiss agricultural, government, research/educational, industry, and NGO sectors, to help finance the transition to #LowCarbon agricultural practices. Our specific focus areas will be supporting #SoilHealth, biodiversity, and #ValueChain collaboration. Watch the video below to learn more! ⬇️ 🤝 Many thanks to Coop, Eisberg, Hilcona AG, and the Pictet Group Foundation for their dedication to fostering sustainability. I am excited to share completion of Climate Action Project named" Carbon Farming: Cultivating Sustainability" under Phase 2 of Student Society for Climate Change Awareness. This project was really great platform for me to grow and learn. During the project implementation, we focused on the problem of greenhouse gases emissions from agricultural sectors. The agricultural byproducts are burnt in countries like Nepal contributing to climate change. Our project aimed to use these byproduct to increase the fertility of the soil in the form of biochar. Biochar are good source for carbon storage and plant nutrition. This idea has great scalability and can be a good approach towards climate action. All in all, I am grateful to my team members and SSCCA for entire support and Cooperation. At the same time, I am thankful to Sana Kisan Krishi Sahakari Sanstha for collaboration. Last but not least, I am grateful to each and every farmers, who been part of our project for their valuable time and feedbacks. #carbonfarmimg #climateaction #greenfarming #Sustainability #biochar #SSCCA #NPTeam11

"Agroecology is a way of farming with nature, not against it. It builds resilience to climate change and epidemics, by combining different plants and animals based on farmers' own knowledge of their local environment. Agroecology does not rely on chemicals to fertilise crops and control pests - it relies on diversity. And this diversity in the fields translates into a diversity of fresh, nutritious food for communities. So, are we going to remain trapped in the 20th century? Or are we going to embrace agroecology as the next evolution of food systems." IPES-Food #agriculture

The Amazon Biodiversity Fund is proud to finance the expansion of INOCAS Amazonia. Inocas Amazonia regenerate degraded lands in partnership with family farmers by planting the macaúba in the Amazon, a native Brazilian palm tree that produces sustainable vegetable oils. Potential for Macaúba in the Amazon is significant. It has strong resilience to droughts, is found naturally in the transition zones of the Amazon biome and can be cultivated using silvopastoral or agroforestry systems. From macaúba are extracted different by-products that have promising applications in the industry. It can be a powerful tool to halt deforestation whilst generating sustainable revenues for farmers and smallholder farmers in particular. With this new investment Inocas Amazonia will aim to sustainably regenerate and operate an extra 1,000 hectares in 2024. Congratulations to Johannes Zimpel Ramon Carvalho Janio Cesar Vitor Salomão Ferreira Franco, the entire the INOCAS team, and advisors FM/Derraik. Desi cows play a crucial role in biodiversity preservation due to their unique genetic makeup and adaptability to various environments. These cows are well-suited to the local ecosystems and have evolved over generations to thrive in the Indian subcontinent. By raising desi cows, farmers help preserve indigenous livestock breeds that are well-adapted to local conditions and contribute to the genetic diversity of the animal population. This genetic diversity is essential for the resilience and adaptation of livestock to changing environmental conditions and challenges. Desi cows also play a role in maintaining the ecological balance of their habitats. Their grazing habits help control vegetation growth, prevent wildfires, and promote soil health through nutrient cycling. Additionally, their dung serves as a natural fertilizer, contributing to the fertility of the soil and promoting plant growth. Overall, desi cows are an integral part of India's rich biodiversity and their preservation is essential for the sustainable development of agriculture and the conservation of natural ecosystems.

Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay! 🌍 As UN Environment Programme puts it, "We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources & bring back soils" - and crop breeding is a pivotal tool in this mission 🌱 #Agriculture, while a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, is also profoundly affected by climate change. The good news is that plant breeding holds a crucial role in combating these challenges: ☘ Mitigating environmental degradation: by producing more with less land, advanced crop varieties can help halt deforestation and preserve natural habitats 📈 Alleviating poverty: increased agricultural production, especially in developing economies, can boost food security and lift communities out of poverty 🤝 Synergies for sustainability: plant breeding can be integrated with agronomy and policy initiatives to achieve sustainable outcomes, ensuring resilient and productive agricultural systems At CGIAR our Genetic Innovation Initiatives, along with the entire organization, is dedicated to regeneration and sustainability every day. Stay tuned for our upcoming documentary, ahead of #CGIARScienceWeek, showcasing how we make this happen 🎉 ⤵
