One of the key commitments that stood out for me from the Pact for the Future, Summit of the Future outcome document, is the pledge to honour, promote, and preserve cultural diversity and heritage. It emphasizes the importance of languages, knowledge systems, traditions, and fostering intercultural and interreligious dialogue. A crucial element in this commitment is the call for strengthened international cooperation on the return and restitution of cultural properties from monuments to manuscripts to their countries of origin (This will be a big talk). This appeal not only targets governments but also encourages private entities to join the effort, ensuring that cultural treasures of spiritual, ancestral, historical, and cultural value are preserved and returned to where they belong. This is a profound step toward safeguarding our global heritage and nurturing a more inclusive, respectful, and connected world. i guess this is more happy news to Aliguma Ahabyona Akiiki and bwana Albert Kasozi. #CulturalHeritage #CulturalDiversity #GlobalCooperation #OurCommonFuture

ICCROM Director-General’s opening remarks at the international forum Vilnius and Other World Heritage Cities: Living Links emphasized the growing pressures on World Heritage cities and their increasing vulnerability. This forum serves as a vital platform for historic cities to come together, share experiences, and explore innovative approaches to urban heritage management. “This initiative takes us further in understanding the on-the-ground realities, particularly in reducing urban risks and enhancing the resilience of our historic cities and leads us to the preparation of more comprehensive guidelines and tools for effectively tackling concrete issues in a holistic and systems-thinking approach, leading to lasting policy-level changes. Together, let’s protect the present of our shared past for the future.” https://lnkd.in/dQkBBMQt https://lnkd.in/dZVDqHyG

"Global policies that support the mobility of artists and a balanced flow of cultural goods and services around the world are essential. There is a severe imbalance in the flow of cultural goods and services. Developed countries dominate the global cultural services trade, accounting for 95% of total exports while those from least developed countries account for just 0.5%, making them almost invisible." New UNESCO video on the need for preferential treatment measures to support the balanced flow of cultural goods and services, as per Article 16 of the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, ratified by more than 150 Member States, and which calls for "developed countries [to] facilitate cultural exchanges with developing countries by granting, through the appropriate institutional and legal frameworks, preferential treatment to artists and other cultural professionals and practitioners, as well as cultural goods and services from developing countries". The UNESCO-Aschberg Programme is the operational tool of the 2005 Convention to provide capacity-bulding to Member States in improving the implementaiton of this instrumental article.
