One of my favorite things about the energy transition is learning how many seemingly unrelated technologies can be paired together. In our latest DDC Public Affairs podcast on the #energytransition, we cover the enormous potential of pairing hydrogen with carbon capture, and the need for community engagement and education strategies to build support for new projects. With CCUS, we can produce hydrogen from natural gas and safely store the resulting emissions — enabling the affordable production of clean hydrogen at scale. Yet the value of this approach isn't immediately understood by communities or policymakers, not least because the terminology used to describe it is often confusing and inaccessible (like assigning colors to hydrogen production methods). Communities can't trust a new technology if they don't understand it. Developers must adopt a proactive engagement strategy that demystifies the science behind hydrogen/CCUS and demonstrates its tangible economic benefits. Public acceptance isn't guaranteed — it must be earned through authentic outreach and education.

Great job Charles McConnell highlighting the link between practical and present methods to decarbonize Hydrogen as a fuel using Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Focusing on decarbonizing existing SMR and ATR Hydrogen processes at scale along the Gulf Coast industrial base to enable the Hydrogen as a fuel global economy is the most practical and present roadmap to achieve society's clean energy and environmental goals by 2040. To get started we need Texas Sovereignty over EPA Class VI Carbon Dioxide Sequestration permitting and Austin ready to issue permits quickly, reliably, and predictably. Austin - are you listening? Are we ready?

A very interesting read on the major challenges within the hydrogen economy referring to production targets, energy supply-demand balance, aviation readiness, storage requirements, and transmission network development and how they can be solved with collaborative efforts across sectors. "We'll be able to store hydrogen as it's produced, and then when it's needed in market when other renewable sources aren't available, we'll be able to then extract that hydrogen and use it in things like power generation,” #hydrogenproduction #hydrogenchallenges
