Here's a glimpse into this incredible journey:  📍 Location: Ahmedabad   ⏱ Time Frame: 90 Days  The Challenges: This 260-seat auditorium was more than just a renovation—it was a reinvention:   🔧 Comprehensive Makeover: From flooring to stage lighting, ceiling to AV systems, every element had to be reimagined and replaced with the latest designs and technologies.   💡 Structural Reinforcement: The old construction needed significant civil changes and reinforcement before we could proceed with the interiors.  The Execution: Our team executed this turnkey project with precision:   ✅ Demolished the existing interiors and carried out necessary civil adjustments.   ✅ Integrated world-class AV systems, acoustic solutions, and stage lighting.   ✅ Designed and installed cutting-edge flooring, ceilings, and seating, ensuring durability and modern aesthetics.  Key Lessons: 📖 Always assess and reinforce old structures before diving into the interiors of renovation projects. Forbes Marshall Corporate Office Location: Kasarwadi, Pune, Maharashtra, India Built-up Area: 6,000 sq. ms Duration: 2021 - 2023 Design Head: Prof. Christopher Charles Benninger Design Team: Ar. daraius choksi, Ar. Sectional View: SHLAGHA RAIPURE Site Execution: Forbes Marshall The Forbes Marshall factory in Kasarwadi has seen haphazard incremental growth since the late 50’s. Reacting to the changing needs, the facility had added four new built zones to the initial structure over the years. This resulted in a collaged building with varying spans, heights, and construction materials: with RCC columns and sheet metal roofs in some parts and load-bearing walls and concrete slabs in others. By #retaining, #reinforcing and #reappropriating, the factory space was converted into a modern corporate hub housing 300 employees. To retain parts of the original structure while fortifying it for future demands, advanced technological methods such as carbon wrapping were used on the existing columns. Through meticulous reinforcement techniques such as steel jacketing and bracket installations, structural integrity was bolstered, ensuring longevity and safety for occupants. #Passivesustainability measures, including radiant cooling technology integrated into the flooring system, significantly reduced reliance on traditional air conditioning, enhancing user comfort and cost-effectiveness. The design ethos favoured simplicity, with a predominantly white palette. Industrial Architecture @ Indore Engineering plant that comprises of expanding assembly lines, work-flow of multiple processes & services that require a close understanding for optimisation of spatial design and structural system - set in Pithampur Industrial Belt. Transparency in planning and transformation of abstract ideas into real-world solutions, both functionally and aesthetically were focussed simultaneously. "I take beautiful, aesthetic houses, break them and turn them into matchboxes. I am an architect" the character played by Vijay Sethupathi responds when asked by the character played by Katrina Kaif about what he does in the recent thriller 'Merry Christmas' Not sure about the architects but the builders, real-estate giants and developmental authorities are definitely to be blamed for turning spaces into uninhabitable and unaesthetic. Some of my observations: a) Each city has its architectural vibe, but that's mostly restricted now to old areas of the city. I have lived in Indore and Udaipur and you'll find aesthetic and appealing buildings in the older regions. The rest of the city (buildings, offices, and streets) looks similar to any other city. Barring some buildings and areas, all look the same. b) Smart city projects - Just putting I LOVE _________ signs in every city doesn't make them unique. I found Udaipur's railway station and its exterior one of the most beautiful I have seen across India. The whole frontier is now being broken for building some shabby underground malls (the ones that weren't needed at all) Just because there's some money, doesn't mean unnecessary construction has to happen. And even if it has to, it shouldn't be at the cost of aesthetics. Famous food markets in Indore and Amritsar were converted into food zones with homogenous typography on the shops. Why? c) Unbreathable houses and complex - This is across North India. No sunlight, no ventilation. I have gone home hunting in Noida, Jaipur, Indore, Udaipur for myself, family and friends and it is a mess. Newly built houses and buildings have seepage issues, their interiors are exposed as the paint and plasters have gone within a year or two. People who have spent their own money to build their house also haven't given some basic things a thought - glass buildings without ventilation, excessive use of marble, floorings that make it difficult for you to walk on. I can't even share the horrors of hostels made for students. The corresponding industry of sanitation and electricals also produces low-quality products which means a newly constructed house will continue to throw expenses on you. The burning question for me however is, are we even giving time for aesthetics to take birth? With the rush in developmental projects and money pouring in to make things smart, where is the time for the artist to create a beautiful city? Another, big question. Where are the artists? Imagining a landscape of the city, the movement, the intricacies is the job of an artist or a scientist (science-artist)? If you look around in your colony, all the unoccupied plots are by default dumping grounds. It is not a question of our behaviour. It portrays our fundamental disturbance with empty space. If there's a space, fill it with filth, if there's empty time, fill it with more work and productivity, if there's empty stomach, fill it with junk. We need to be slow to be smart.
