#𝐀𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬. The facial recognition used to unlock our phones, relies on complex algorithms to identify individuals by analyzing facial features in images or videos. The facial recognition systems use machine learning (ML), a type of AI, to continuously improve their accuracy. Imagine what our future would be like in 2041 - that is 17 more years from now! I spent the last weekend scanning through the examples illustrated in AI 2041, authored by Kai-Fu Lee and Chen Quifan. In this book, the authors used a blend of storytelling and scientific forecasting. In 10 compelling stories the authors showed us 📌 AI can take over manufacturing, delivery, design and marketing of most goods 📌 Autonomous vehicles will become mainstream - taking us anytime anywhere at minimal cost 📌 AI will take over routine jobs and tasks for both the white collars and blue collars workers 📌 AI works 24/7 does not get sick, does not complain, and does not need to paid 📌 AI will augment teachers to tailor curriculum for students of different calibre 📌 AI can enhance our wellbeing by predicting our risk of diseases, allowing us to take preventative care 📌 AI will reinvent how humans collaborate and free up time for us to pursue meaningful work Of course the authors also touched on the dark side of AI, deepfakes propagating fake news and scams. AI's personalisation can also cause us to be unconsciously manipulated by AI and motivated by profit for advertising (which we are already experiencing today). Understanding these scenarios will help us embrace the future with imagination and stop worrying. It also gives us perspective on how we can deploy AI ethical and use it responsibly. Overall the stories are really futuristic, something that looks very far-fetched today. Good read as I prepare for a series of LinkedIN Live panel discussions on AI that I will be moderating in the coming months and preparing for a keynote address at a Future of Work Summit at the #SkillsFutureFestival in August.
