Vendors will register and upload system details on the portal, and beneficiaries will apply for RTS installation and select vendors based on offered services and prices.#process Vendor Selection and Installation ➡ Beneficiaries and vendors will mutually agree on rates, system specifications, and design customization. Yellow Malawi and Zambia’s RDG Collective Secure $3.25 Million for Off-Grid Solar Expansion Off-grid solar companies, Yellow Malawi and Zambia’s RDG Collective, have secured a combined $3.25 million in debt financing from Acumen’s Hardest-to-Reach (H2R) initiative. The funding is aimed at expanding access to clean energy in underserved areas of Africa. Yellow Malawi, a distributor of solar home systems and mobile phones to off-grid rural communities, received $2 million, while RDG Collective, a Zambian company that provides renewable energy products, secured $1.25 million. The Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF 2024) kicked off at ADB headquarters in Manila on 3rd June 2024. The theme of this year’s ACEF is “Accelerating the Clean Energy Transition and Ensuring Energy Security and Affordability – Time for Urgent Action Now”. ACEF has a nearly 20-year history of being the regional flagship forum where clean energy practitioners from across Asia convene to share insights and experience in the design and implementation of concrete actions that accelerate the financing of clean and efficient energy solutions. As part of the forum, there is a specific session titled "ADB on the ground" wherein ADB staff, consultants, and government counterparts showcase pioneering, innovative and impactful ADB projects throughout Asia that have brought about significant and enduring changes across the region. ADB’s Solar Rooftop Investment Program (SRIP) was shortlisted as one of the only 17 projects across Asia that was selected to be presented to the wider audience as part of the session. It is really heartening to see the SRIP gaining global visibility through the ACEF platform as me along with my other colleagues and ADB staff have been part of this journey since its inception. ADB’s SRIP was launched in 2016 to facilitate India's transition to a low carbon economy and contribute to the climate change goal by financing solar rooftop projects through its concessional funds routed through sovereign-guaranteed Multi-tranche Financing Facility (MFF) of USD 500 million. In conjunction with the associated Technical Assistance program, SRIP has been able to create real impact on ground by supporting range of stakeholders at both the central and state level. With the onset of PM Surya Ghar scheme, SRIP gains even more significance as concessional funds are required to provide low-interest collateral free loan products to consumers. The Viability Gap Funding (VGF) Scheme assists infrastructure projects that possess economic justification but may exhibit a slight deficiency in financial viability. Viability gap funding of Rs 930 crore has been allocated for one gigawatt (GW) of offshore wind capacity, reinforcing the government's commitment to clean energy projects with private sector sponsors chosen through competitive bidding. The budget is also aimed at providing solar rooftop panels to households below the poverty line, potentially leading to substantial savings and supporting the electric vehicle sector.
