In the wake of Exit Poll and expected rout of BJP in Kashmir , a lot of folks are now, again, questioning Modi govt’s development agenda for Kashmir.
The most important way to de-radicalize a region and to correct the demographic imbalance created in the past, is to attract new businesses/industries to the region. In order to do that it is important that peace prevails and infrastructure is developed.
It takes time for development to happen which can attract businesses who then attract professionals/skilled workers from all across to the region. It has just been 5 years. You can’t do it in a jiffy by just waving a magic wand!
Tourism is back in a big way and that too will help folks to wean away from radicalisation. Data tells us that recruitment to terrorists ranks from the valley is most insignificant now and decreasing.
Modi govt has already banned radical Islamist orgs like Jamaat and their madrassas, so that is already done.
Modi does not work for vote banks but all his decisions are in the interest of the nation. Holding free and fair election was in the interest of the nation, which he passed with flying colours. Irrespective of the election result, the world will have to give credit to Modi for the turnover & peaceful/fair conduct of elections.
What Modi govt, in my view, need to also focus on priority now is to rehabilitate Kashmiri Pandits now in a concerted way within a reasonable time plan! I am sure, it is in works now and will be publicly rolled out.
Let us also not forget, that POK is in play too and it definitely, I feel, figures in Modi’s/India’s plans.
I know for a fact that Modi’s thinking starts from where other’s end, primarily because he knows a lot more of what’s is happening now than all of us and, more importantly, what going to happen in the future!
So I back him completely and support him unflinchingly.
Do you?
