Virtus congratulates the French Alps for winning the bid to host the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games! The official IOC announcement stated: “It will be the first edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to fully integrate the principles of Olympic Agenda 2020 and 2020+5, as well as new requirements on sustainability set by the IOC’s Olympic Host Contract.” This aligns perfectly with Virtus' campaign for re-inclusion, promoting inclusivity, equality, and diversity in sports. Virtus is once again calling on the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Ski and Snowboarding Federation (FIS) to take the necessary steps to achieve re-inclusion for athletes with intellectual impairments in time for the 2030 Games. Athletes with intellectual impairments had full medal status at the 1998 Nagano Winter Paralympic Games in Cross Country Skiing. While some events are included in the Summer Paralympic Games, our winter athletes are still waiting. Virtus and its members are committed to fighting for the re-inclusion of athletes with intellectual impairments in the Winter Paralympics. We call on global support for inclusion and equity. #InclusionMatters #VirtusSport #MakingInvisibleVISIBLE #Equality #WinterParalympics #FrenchAlps2030

The Most Successful Athlete in the Paralympic History The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games concluded on September 8th. You can see replays of highlights and view results here: https://lnkd.in/gJYz7qVH Today's quote comes from the most decorated athlete in the history of the Paralympics, Trischa Zorn-Hudson. Having won 55 medals (41 gold, 9 silver and 5 bronze) and broken 8 world records at the Paralympics in swimming, Trischa Zorn raised the bar for Paralympic athletes. Zorn was an athlete of swimming in every Paralympic Games from 1980 in Arnhem, Netherlands to 2004 in Athens, Greece. In her first games in 1980, she won seven gold medals and collected several more throughout the years. At the 1992 games in Barcelona, she topped the individual medal table with ten gold medals and two silver. She won more medals than any other athlete at the 1996 games in Atlanta with two gold, three silver and three bronze. Throughout the years, she has held eight world records in the 50 m backstroke, 100 m backstroke, 200 m backstroke, 200 m individual medley, 400 m individual medley, 200 m breaststroke, 4×50 m medley relay and 4×50 m free relay. She was inducted into the Paralympic Hall of Fame in 2012. Today, Zorn is giving back to the sport of swimming through coaching and mentoring other swimmers, from beginners to masters. Trischa was born on June 1, 1964 with aniridia. This is a congenital eye condition caused by a dysfunction in the PAX6 gene, the gene responsible for eye development. This condition causes the eye to stop developing prematurely. The only treatment for aniridia is a surgery involving a synthetic iris replacement, which reduces the amount of light entering the eyes. Before Zorn received surgery, she could only see objects that were a few feet in front of her. After the surgery, her vision improved from 20/1100 to 20/850. The surgery’s main purpose was to help cut down glare from light coming into her eyes. Find more healthy lifestyle inspiration tips, workouts and recipes on my YT channel @starfishstrength. Indian contingent secured 18th rank by winning highest ever medals totalling 29 at just concluded Paris Paralympics 2024. Heartiest congratulations to all the medal winners and entire Indian contingent and it's support teams. This has been greatest show so far by Indian Team Now more about Paralympics : The word “Paralympic” derives from the Greek preposition “para” (beside or alongside) and the word “Olympic”. Its meaning is that Paralympics are the parallel Games to the Olympics and illustrates how the two movements exist side-by-side. Paralympic athletes/sportspersons have an impairment in body structures and functions that lead to a competitive disadvantage in sport. What is the motto of Paralympic? The symbol reflects the Paralympic Motto, “Spirit in Motion,” representing the strong will of every Paralympian. The Paralympic Symbol also emphasises the fact that Paralympic athletes are constantly inspiring and exciting the world with their performances: always moving forward and never giving up. Finally the message for all : While majority of us who are able bodied keep complaining and giving excuses for our failures and our sub- standard performance whereas we have these paralympians who compete at international levels and bring laurels to the country. What is important in life is that "fighting spirit" , that "fire in the belly" to succeed...

𝗔𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 Singapore’s Yip Pin Xiu won her latest gold at the Paris Paralympics on Friday. That got me thinking – why is there such disparity in the attention from the media and public, the prize money and significance of that gold medal between Olympics and Paralympics… Reflecting on the news coverage of Yip Pin Xiu’s journey of becoming Singapore’s Paralympian, her story of overcoming all odds is a powerful example of self-leadership in the face of adversity, offering valuable reminders to us: 💡 𝙎𝙚𝙡𝙛-𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝𝙨 Instead of seeing her Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, which progressively weakens muscles, as a limitation or indulging in self-pity, she recognized her love for swimming, developed it and turned it into her strength. 💡 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 She faced discrimination and isolation growing up, but she faced these external judgements head on, managed to overcome them and used these experiences to build mental toughness and resilience. All of these in addition to the discipline, the challenging journey, the pain and sweat that any competitive sportsman will have to go through. 💡 𝘿𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙨 Despite the disparity in recognition between Paralympians and Olympians, she did not allow societal expectations or external validation to define her. She focused on defining her own success and her own goals. 💡 𝙍𝙚𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 Although missing the podium in 2012, she came back stronger, adapting her approach and continued to grow. She bounced back by winning two gold medals at Rio 2016, even after she stayed committed to grow. Her world records and golds in subsequent Paralympics, world championships and Asian Para Games would not have been by stroke of luck. All of us are in life's own Olympics. How we want to participate and ultimately emerge in our ’Olympics' is all up to us.

India ended its campaign at Paris Paralympics 2024 with a record 29 medals (beating even the best case projection of 25 by the pundits). Of the 29 medals that India clinched, 7 were gold medals, a first for the country in the history of the Paralympic Games. India better its tally from Tokyo Paralympics by 10 medals. This was a splendid performance from India beating top nations like Switzerland, Belgium, South Korea, Turkey, Argentina, etc. to finish the Paris Para Games among the top 20 countries in the world. It has been a stellar Paralympics for India – 29 medals don’t come easy, and speak of a revolution back home. From a solitary medal in 2012 to 29 just 12 years later is serious progress. The success is attributable to the emergence of women para athletes (winning 12 medals). Before the Paris games, Indian women para athletes had just won medals at the games. A rise in government and private funding along with CSR funding has led to increased participation numbers at the national level which has translated to better performance internationally. For the Paralympic movement to become all-encompassing and sustainable in India, we need to make sure they don’t disappear from the radar. It is not as if they will stop competing, and resurface four years later during the Paralympic Games in LA in 2028. They will compete at the World Championships, Asian Para Games, Commonwealth Games and many other competitions. And it is essential for us to stay with them and ensure media coverage. That’s how the masses will start to identify with them, and the Paralympics and para sport will then become mainstream. While we will all start to move to cricket once the season starts, it will be equally important to follow Olympic and Paralympic sport with the same passion. More coverage means more stories, and that will automatically translate into more corporate support and brand endorsements. With more investment, there will be more athletes that come to the fore, and the number of medals could well touch 40 at LA ’28. Paris 2024 has the potential to be Paralympics’ cricket WC 1983 moment. All of a sudden, there is talk of it everywhere. The PM has made calls to congratulate all the athletes, several felicitation programs and corporate signings have started to take place. We can’t just disappear thinking it is a job well done. The Paralympics don’t come every four years, they come every day, to paraphrase Abhinav Bindra. If we continue to back these men and women and the ones who will emerge on the scene in the next few years, there is every reason to believe India can make it to the top 10 of the medals tally at LA ’28. The foundation has been laid in Paris. Now it is time to build the superstructure, and make sure that the foundation is further strengthened. #paralympics #sports #india #achievement #progress
