We're continuing our Q & A with members of the People Team following their double win at The Caterer People Awards last week. This time it's the turn of our Head of Learning & Culture Mikey Cullen to answer a couple of questions from us: What key initiative are you most proud of having implemented at Heartwood Collection? Something I am really proud of being part of is the development and succession culture we have created. We have a career pathway for every role in our sites that clearly outlines what we expect of you when you are fully up and running and how we are going to train and support you on that journey. Hospitality is an incredible industry for both those who are with us as a stop gap between something else and those who want a career with us. The beauty of this industry is that some people (including myself) take a job thinking it will be a placeholder to do something else and then build a fantastic career within hospitality. For those who want to progress, we have great systems, programmes and reporting in place to ensure we identity them early and turn their ambition into the next step of their career. As we grow, how important is it to preserve the culture that makes Heartwood such a special place for our people?  Culture at Heartwood Collection is everything. It is how we welcome you in the morning, say goodbye at night, support you on the tough days and celebrate the good times with you. What is incredible about our culture is that it is so authentic. We don't ask people to recite our values of Seek Excellence, Lead by Example and Genuinely Care but we do ask them to live and breath them every day. Being a culturale led business means everyone has to be part of that journey. We want our teams to live our values across all levels. In terms of how we keep that alive as we grow? I feel it's important to understand what out cultural 'non negotiables' are and work back from there. If we can understand that across all departments then we will continue to drive the business forward in a culturally driven way. The kind act of Hospitality…. I have been wondering if the kind act of hospitality is a solution to navigating a fragile world better as a human. After my interview with Maverick Paulo De Tarso, in which we explored this subject, I have reflected on the fact that we live in an increasingly divided and disconnected world, and hospitality might offer a simple yet profound solution. It costs nothing but can transform how we live and work together. Hospitality is a universal act - anyone can practise it, no matter their role or resources. A small gesture, a smile, or genuine kindness has the power to reconnect us and foster empathy.
