The long delayed Census of India looks probable now starting 2025. Much is at stake in this Census with the opposition demanding that all castes of India be enumerated. As of now Census only counts the numbers of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and not other castes. Pressure is on the Government to count all castes which were last enumerated pre independence in 1931. The Government also needs to take a call on whether it will use the upcoming Census data to redraw parliamentary constituencies — a delimitation process that gives more seats to states which have more people. Now southern states which have done well to control the population are fearing loss of Lok Sabha seats post delimitation. A new era of political confrontation will begin with Census 2025. Caste Census Throughout election 2024 an agenda, the darling of I. N. D. I Alliance, was the Caste Census of Hindu Community and insurance of proportional representation in reservation system of Bharat. The moot question is whether people for whom reservation system was conceived were the real beneficiaries under the system. The data since Independence proves bare naked that they were at the receiving ends. Their legitimate right and share in the system have been usurped by sharks among OBC, ST and SC community. Do likes of Yadavs, Kurmis, Koeries, Paswans and many more deserve reservation. The latest Supreme Court decision to identify creamy layers within SC and ST community invites acerbic comments from the likes of Chirag Paswan, Maayawati etc. Reservation is a handy tool to further and accentuate the schism and to deepen the social faultline within Hindu society. Netas have nothing to loose as they have sweets in their both hands. As head of the Governance system they have the absolute ownership of the public assets. Public assets are exploited and manipulated to satiate their Economic Greed and reservation is the way to reach the coveted administrative position further to deepen their Greed and loot of public assets. Their mechanisation leads the downtrodden people of the lowest statum of society to get further buried deep into the vicious cycle of poverty and extinction and their well deserved welfare and developmental fruits are stolen by the people who are sitting at a higher political and administrative echelon. The reservation system needs a relook critically as to whether the outcome of the system synchronises with the purpose with which it was brought into the society.

My take on the demand for a nationwide caste census - "Almost all political parties in India, except the BJP, want to maintain a status quo on the current reservation system while raising bogey for caste census. There are two main reasons for this: First, their political strength depends on the current caste dynamics. Second, demanding a caste census, they believe, is one of the few ways to challenge Narendra Modi’s political dominance. Moreover, significant demographic changes have occurred since then. India’s census will begin next year. Furthermore, it will influence future electoral boundaries. Tribal areas currently have special constitutional protections. Nevertheless, delimitation could alter existing arrangements. It is undeniable that the Caste Census has become a noteworthy #election issue. And, it may help the Congress and the opposition in garnering some #votes against the #BJP, but it is crucial to note that this alone cannot secure #victory for the Congress and the INDIA bloc in the ongoing #LokSabha Elections. There are a few reasons behind the same; first of all, the appeal of the Caste Census need has not been as strong as it should have been by the Congress and the opposition. Much of the population is not even aware of what changes the "Caste Census" would be able to bring into the people's lives. Further, the narrative of the Caste Census is not as big as the BJP's narratives of #Hindutva, Hyper-Nationalism, and Social Welfare Schemes backed by the RSS's massive outreach and High-level Advertisements of the BJP-Modi Govt. Decoding the Congress Caste Census narrative Vs. BJP Narrative The Congress party has #released a campaign video titled 'Ginti Karo' featuring Rahul Gandhi, which emphasizes the need for a #nationwide caste census. In order to promote this initiative ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi added Gintikaro to his bio on the micro-blogging site X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. The campaign video, which is 1 minute and 53 seconds long, was shared by Gandhi on social media platform X with the caption 'Gine nahi jaoge to sune nahi jaoge, Isliye bohot hui vinti ab INDIA karega ginti' (If you don't count, you won't be heard! Hence 'Enough requested, now INDIA will count'). Rahul Gandhi emphasized his party's commitment to carrying out a caste census if they win the #election. He stated that this action, along with an economic survey, would eliminate the 50% reservation cap. Gandhi added that the Congress party's slogan is "count" because it is the first step towards #justice. In a post written in Hindi on X, the former Congress president asked if people have ever considered who constitutes the poor population, how many are there, and what their conditions are. Gandhi referred to the caste survey conducted in Bihar, which showed that 88% of the poor #population is made up of Dalits, tribals, backward, and minority communities. He also mentioned that this is just a small glimpse of the actual #situation of the poor in the country and that the country has no idea about the condition in which the poor population lives. "He said that's why we're taking two historic steps - caste census and #economic mapping - based on which we'll remove the 50% reservation limit. This step will 'X-ray' the country, providing accurate #reservations and equal rights to all," Gandhi explained. The Congress' narrative of the Caste Census and giving equal #opportunities to all castes as per their population is not bad, nor is there anything wrong with this narrative. But, this narrative does not stand and is unable to confront the BJP's narrative of high-paced development across the country. It can not take on the BJP's narrative of Hindutva, Mega Developmental #schemes backed by the RSS mega outreach and Hyper-Nationalism.
