Hot off the press! A recent peer-reviewed study published in Infection found that SeptiCyte® RAPID was able to distinguish between #sepsis and sterile inflammation among patients recovering from abdominal surgery. Sepsis is a major concern in the context of post-surgical complications. These findings emphasize the promise and potential of our point-of-care molecular host response assay in helping physicians diagnose #sepsis among patients recovering from surgery. Cancer bladder is challenging specially in Elderly. 👴 Patient who are 80 yr and above have high mortality and morbidity with Radical Surgery. Laparoscopic radical cystectomy, compared to the open approach, generally offers advantages such as smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays, quicker recovery, and potentially lower postoperative pain. 🩹🏥🏃♂️ Additionally, laparoscopic procedures often result in less scarring and decreased risk of infection. 👍 However, the choice between laparoscopic and open approaches depends on factors like the patient's health, surgeon expertise, and specific case considerations. 🤔 #healthcare #surgery #laparoscopy #apollohospitals

Excited to share that our global surgery collaboration project on "Postoperative Anaemia and Unplanned Readmission" has been published in the prestigious British Journal of Surgery (Impact Factor: 8.6)! https://lnkd.in/dPK5jV4Q The first paper out of this global collaberation and my first project in the field of Acute care surgery 🎉 🔍 Key Findings: -Studied 5266 patients across 101 hospitals in 13 countries -Mean age: 55.6 years; 58.3% women -Common surgeries: hepatopancreatobiliary (38.4%), colorectal (25.4%), upper GI (16.9%) -18.6% had postoperative complications; 4.0% were major - 46.3% had postoperative anaemia; 70.7% remained anaemic at 30-day follow-up - 6.8% readmitted within 30 days, mainly due to complications and infections - Anaemia increased readmission risk (9.5% vs. 5.5%, P < 0.001) - Preoperative frailty increased risks of complications, longer stays, and readmission This study highlights the significant impact of postoperative anaemia and frailty on patient outcomes after major abdominal surgery, underscoring the need for targeted interventions to improve recovery and reduce readmission rates. #Surgery #Research #PostoperativeCare #Anaemia #PatientOutcomes #acutecaresurgery

Perioperative hypothermia in plastic surgery has underestimated risks, including increased risk of infection, cardiac events, blood loss, prolonged recovery time, and increased nausea, pain, and opioid usage. Inadequate preventive measures can result in up to 4 hours of normothermia restoration. Objectives The aim was to compare the impact of different strategies for normothermia during plastic surgery procedures and their relationship with clinical outcomes. 🔗Read, cite, share the paper: https://lnkd.in/edQQnKEx

Early identification of anaemia and developing tailored management plan for optimisation can enhance patient outcomes.
Anemia in surgery Anemia is common in surgical patients and is associated with postoperative complications. Early identification and treatment may reduce transfusion exposures and improve clinical outcomes, as outlined in this expert consensus document. https://lnkd.in/e6PZQEsj #PBMAW2024 #SABMPBMAwarenessWeek

The PROSPECT group's systematic review (DOI: 10.1097/EJA.0000000000001945) presents updated pain management guidelines for laparoscopic colorectal surgery. Paracetamol is suggested as a fundamental analgesic, with additional NSAIDs or COX-2 inhibitors recommended, tailored to surgery type. The study emphasizes evidence-based analgesia, contributing to improved postoperative care. #HealthcareGuidelines #Anesthesia #SurgicalRecovery #ClinicalPractice
