Two years and six months ago, Mike and I set out to create a bigger, stronger, and more productive Target brokerage. It has been an incredible journey, and I am proud of what we have achieved together. However, the time has come for us to part ways, and I am no longer part of the Chiodo team. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the vendor partners that trusted me with your business. Retail is a hard thing to break into - Target more than most. Looking back, there are many accomplishments to celebrate. We launched a lot of new private label programs, introduced exciting new brands, and significantly improved data and analytics for our vendor partners. The past couple of years have also been a period of immense growth and learning for me. I've finally figured out what makes me tick, the type of company I want to be part of, and how important culture is in the work world. And now - the job hunt begins. While I am uncertain about where my career path will lead, I am certain of two things: 1. I will make the most of this summer with the family. Cabin time here we come!! 2. Wherever I end up, I've got a new mindset and a whole ton of energy to go create something amazing. Here's to new beginnings.

So what have I actually achieved in my career. I have been doing a little bit of reflecting back, this was brought on by one of those slumps between contracts when you question your capabilties, with a good bit of thought and some serious reflection I have realised that I have accomplished one hell of lot, some of the highlights from a long career; One of my first gigs as a PM was closing down Shells head office in a very volatile African city and moving it to a production site in the middle of a jungle. That was a lot of fun. Created the worlds first online banking platform, Open Plan with the Woolwich, we actually built the entire middleware platform in the middle of the office. Williams F1 team. Put in place the first formula 1 supercomputer that designed the winning car for the next 2 seasons. These systems revolutionised formula 1 car design. Built out the worlds largest supercomputer for Sandia Labs, made up of over 300 DEC GS360 systems that filled an area the size of a football pitch all conected by quantum switches and crunching an insane amount of computations per second for the time Fitted out the largest PFI hospital in Europe, shutting down 5 regional hospitals and moving them to the new build in less than 8 months Turned around Nothern Rock following its collapse, building an entire replica of the bank and then transferring all the toxic assets to the new bank. Right sized the bank and helped with its sale to Virgin Turned around one of the worst peforming Water companies in the UK helping to take it to one of the best performing and one that is still considered as a model for successful transformation Completed the divestment of 27 major manufacturing sites from GSK to Haleon in a ridiculously short time frame creating the world largest consumer health company, ahead of time and under budget. And these are just some of the highlights. So all in all, not to shabby I think and what a hell of a ride it’s been. So what’s next folks, feel free to challenge me 😊. I can safely say that I have the background to ensure that whatever your challange I can meet it and deliver.

At times in our careers, we’ll work for the market leaders. At other times in our careers, we’ll work for the underdog—where we have to scrap and claw our way through each day. Always swimming against the current, the wind never at our back. I would argue this is the fun part—where the world knows you have to catch what you eat. No white-glove delivery service. No incoming calls with massive customer orders. It’s the daily battle that many of us face in our careers as we work for the runner-up. Ultimately, we have two choices in this scenario: complain that we’re not the market leader, in envy, spending countless hours trying to chase who they are and what they do, then realize that when we’re about to catch them, they’ve already made their next move. We’re playing checkers while they’re playing chess. That’s the reason they’re leading the pack. Or, we can embrace the fact that there’s only one direction to go. The market conditions only reflect the score of today, not tomorrow. We own where we are, and we’re inspired by where we’re headed. We choose to compete with ourselves and play the game by our rules. I have learned that regardless of the market conditions or our position in it, somebody will always end up on top of the board. So, I ask you: How scrappy are you willing to get? And will you do the things that others won’t? When I hang up my cleats at the end of a career, I want them to be muddy. I want them to tell a story of the fight. I want others to know that nothing was given to me.
