AI startups raised at least $50 billion in venture funding last year, but the sector is growing up fast.  📈Down rounds are on the rise, and AI startups are no exception Riddhi Kanetkar from Business Insider investigated the trend and revealed that startups are struggling to raise at the lofty valuations they did after the advent of ChatGPT-3. Which is why so many are looking at alternative funding arrangements. 💸 Andreas Riegler, General Partner at APEX Ventures, shared "In light of the current hype surrounding the sector, we've observed early signs that the AI market may be overheating, with the increase in flat rounds, down rounds, and acquihires being indicative of the challenges ahead." The key problem is that these AI startups operate like typical software companies, "with the caveat that the infrastructure serving the customer was more expensive than before, so margins were lower," said Francesco Ricciuti, a VC at  Runa Capital. Funding for A.I. firms made up nearly half of the $56 billion in U.S. start-up financing from April to June, according to PitchBook. The A.I. boom, sparked by the release of ChatGPT in late 2022, continues to drive significant investment and growth in the sector.
