🌍 What is a #JETP? Just Energy Transition Partnerships support countries in their efforts to achieve an accelerated and socially just energy transition and ambitious climate action. They combine financial and technical assistance from an international group of partners. As a priority country, South Africa is one of the countries where #IKI is focusing its work, and several projects are working with the JETP in South Africa to achieve the country's #climateaction goals. Towards a green and just transition? Denmark has a broad range of green solutions on offer. In 2023, renewable energy covered almost 44% of Denmark's actual energy consumption. With Africa having the potential to produce 40% of the global renewable energy resources and 10% of global wind energy by 2050, we see a perfect opportunity for collaboration and partnership. Denmark looks forward to working with African countries across cooperation on adaptation and mitigation, to advancing joint priorities in our climate diplomacy, and to strengthening green ties with Rwanda, learning from African experiences, and bringing about the just and green transition that is needed 🌍 Read more in the new Danish strategy – Africa's Century - here 👇 https://lnkd.in/dB29s6h2

The European Green Deal aims to lead the EU to climate neutrality by 2050, ensuring the transition is both green and just. Excitingly, the proposal for an Onshore Power Supply (OPS) system at the two North Quay Terminals in Malta Freeport has been greenlit for #JustTransitionFund #JTF financing 💶. This innovative system allows ships moored at the port to turn off their engines and connect to the electricity grid, leading to significant decarbonisation in the maritime sector. The investment promises to reduce marine and air pollution, cut down noise, and enhance quality of life. ⚓🌍Let’s power up the future, sustainably! ⚡🌍 #maltafreeport #electricity #decarbonisation #greenenergy #sustainability SEM - Servizzi Ewropej f'Malta | Public Service of Malta

Islands are eyeing ocean #thermalenergy conversion to power their future and combat #climatechange. 🔋🏝️ https://bit.ly/3LdrsYi Like many of the world’s 57 small island developing nations and territories — a list that includes Puerto Rico, Barbados, and Jamaica — the economically challenged African country of São Tomé and Príncipe has an #energy problem. The tiny archipelago nation to the west of Africa must produce electricity for the 200,000 residents who rely almost entirely on heavily polluting diesel fuel. “Our power generation is 95% from diesel — and we have to import it,” said Gabriel Lima Maquengo, Energy Director for Sao Tome and Prince’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Natural Resources, and Environment. Interest in the long-neglected #carbon-free technology fueled by ocean water is rising, especially with new designs and Shell Oil’s Marine Renewable Program on board.

Singapore and Laos have signed a deal on carbon credits that will help both sides achieve their climate targets. It will also facilitate investment, create jobs and encourage the deployment of clean technology. https://lnkd.in/gsWXgGec - CNA Singapore and Laos signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on carbon credits. This MOU paves the way for bilateral trade in carbon credits and allows both countries to achieve their climate targets. The MOU: - Sets out a framework for the international transfer of carbon credits - Allows for the exchange of best practices and knowledge on carbon market mechanisms - Aligned with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement The two countries are also working together on other green initiatives such as: - Importing renewable hydropower energy from Laos - Lao People’s Democratic Republic-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP) to deepen energy connectivity in the region - Laos becoming the Battery of ASEAN

How can we get to net-zero in Canada? A newly released report lays out a route to meet Canada’s 2050 net zero goals – and the pitfalls we need to avoid. By phasing out fossil fuels, expanding renewable energy infrastructure, reducing energy consumption and more we still have a chance to stabilize the climate and have a liveable future. But it will require fast and bold action from all levels of government. If you’re curious, learn more about the report here: https://lnkd.in/g7ceVFpe We also want to give a shoutout to David Hughes, former federal government scientist, who put in a lot of work to make this report a reality. The development of this Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives report was supported by Sierra Club BC, Climate Action Network Canada, and the Trottier Family Foundation.
