Your marketing playbook expires in 6 months ⏳ 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 - 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 I've learned this the hard way. It's frustrating, but it's also what makes marketing exciting. A few areas I have focused on to keep up with change: 1. Know your audience 🎯 Who are we reaching? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲? Talk to sales and product teams for insights. 2. Be genuinely helpful 🤝 T𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. Try different formats. Be a resource, not just noise. 3. Show up strategically 📍 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲. Be there consistently. 4. Track and adjust 📊 Measure what matters. Use data, not guesses. 𝗕𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗶𝘃𝗼𝘁. These four principles aren't just tactics - they're your adaptable marketing framework. By focusing on these areas, you're building a strategy that can evolve with your audience and the ever-changing marketing landscape. Keep experimenting, stay curious, and don't be afraid to shake things up.

Marketing metrics are often a challenge for non-marketers, and that's a marketing problem to solve. I've witnessed the laughable Marketing Math that Tom Fishburne illustrates. I've seen way worse, as I'm sure you have. Not surprisingly, when metrics are misaligned with the assumptions and expectations of leadership and stakeholders, it diminishes credibility. It's our responsibility to ensure that the audience has a full grasp of the impact of our marketing efforts. When we miss the mark, it's an opportunity for feedback to enhance how we communicate in ways that help instead of hinder. Hint: Financial metrics speak louder (e.g., revenue, ROI, profit, CAC, etc.). Non-financial indicators (e.g., awareness, brand perception, customer satisfaction) cannot be overlooked but should not be relied on to tell the whole story. Balance is essential, and more importantly, is the ability to connect them. What are the weirdest marketing metrics you've seen?
