📗 WEEKEND READ 📗 UEF #CECE researchers Subhanjan Sengupta and Hanna Lehtimäki recently published a study on ‘Fostering Resilience in the Rural Context Through Sustainability Agency in Social Entrepreneurship’. Link: https://lnkd.in/dtSb_hUe The study analyses evidence from a rural context in a desert region in India in a post-pandemic situation, and illustrates how a social enterprise combines human development, circular economy, and value creation. With this, they examine how a social enterprise can combine social, environmental, and economic sustainability to foster resilience at multiple levels in a rural context that is coping with several challenges. This study puts social sustainability at the heart of using circular economy as a measure for rural resilience and economic opportunity creation by including and empowering communities at risk. With this contribution, the study is part of Project MILESTONE (Making Circular Economy Socially Inclusive through Entrepreneurship) funded by the Research Council of Finland | Suomen Akatemia. It was also supported with funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture under the FICORE (Finnish Consortia for Research and Education) Global Pilot network. Think Big, Start Small, and Optimize: A Foundational Key to Agribusiness Success Reflecting on my journey in agribusiness over the past few days has been a mix of joyful memories and hard-learned lessons. Some of my greatest losses came from not adhering to one critical principle that has since become a foundation for every venture I embark on: Think big, start small, and optimize continuously. While this concept may seem straightforward, its impact on long-term sustainability and growth, especially in agribusiness, cannot be overstated. Here’s how we can apply it effectively: 1. Think Big: Define a bold vision for your agribusiness. Whether it’s to become a leader in sustainable farming or to establish a network of smallholder farms, don’t limit your aspirations—dream without boundaries. 2. Start Small: Begin with what you have. Focus on small wins, test new products in local markets, and perfect your processes on a manageable scale. Expansion can follow once your foundation is solid. 3. Optimize Constantly: Every step forward should be an opportunity for improvement. Refine your operations, cut unnecessary costs, and integrate sustainable practices. Efficiency is key to building a resilient business. 4. Leverage Local Resources: Ghana is rich in natural resources and youthful talent💪🏾. By tapping into local expertise and applying innovative technologies, we can gradually scale our businesses while maintaining efficiency and sustainability. The Vital Lesson: Don’t fall into the trap of imitating advanced businesses and systems without mastering the discipline to grow with what you have. In my earlier ventures, I made this mistake, and it cost me big time 😀! There’s immense value in starting small, focusing on what works in your specific context, and optimizing along the way. Whether you're just beginning your journey in agribusiness or are well along the path, remember this philosophy—it will be your guide to sustainable growth and success. As we move forward, let’s be intentional about thinking big, starting small, and optimizing to achieve meaningful strides in agribusiness! #Agribusiness #Sustainability #Innovation #Growth #JobCreation

Yesterday, July 15, 2024, #NoniHub launched the Business Growth Accelerator program (#BGA), a remarkable project aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills and supporting economic growth in the Upper West Region of Ghana. I am thrilled to have been chosen as a mentor and facilitator for this one-month program designed to provide start-ups and entrepreneurs with relevant financial and management skills. This initiative is about more than just corporate growth; it is about having a substantial impact on our community and contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). By assisting SMEs, especially those focused on recycling plastic waste, the program directly contributes to: SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth aims to promote long-term, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for everyone. SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote equitable and sustainable industrialization, and support innovation. SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production - Promotes sustainable consumption and production practices through recycling and resource efficiency. I'd want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the CEO of Noni Hub, Mr. Sumaila Chakura for his ongoing commitment to community development through skills development and entrepreneurship. His actions and interventions are laying the road for a more affluent future by generating opportunities and encouraging innovation. A big thank you to the amazing SMEs involved in this program, especially those who are leading the way in recycling plastic waste. Your hard work and imaginative energy are the genuine catalysts of change. Together, we are making a significant difference and working toward a more sustainable and prosperous future. #Entrepreneurship #Innovation #Sustainability #BusinessGrowth #SDGs #Recycling #CommunityDevelopment #EconomicGrowth #UpperWestRegion #Ghana
