Today it's UN Biodiversity #BiodiversityDay and this year's theme is 'Be part of the Plan' - a call to action for all stakeholders to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity by supporting the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal #GlobalBiodiversityFramework. On 19 December 2023, the one-year anniversary of the adoption of the Global Biodiversity Framework, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity launched “The Biodiversity Plan” campaign aiming to communicate and promote the 4 Goals and the 23 Targets of the Framework to the world. Communicating the Biodiversity Plan is crucial to enabling a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach that will take the world from agreement to action. Governments are accountable for the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework, but everyone has a role to play. A series of meetings recently concluded in Nadi, Fiji, that provided a valuable opportunity for collaboration and sharing of experiences to support the review and implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). The meetings examined Target 3 of the Global Biodiversity Framework, with participants taking a more in-depth look at the support which can be accessed through the Early Action Support Project for NBSAP Revision. We published the second issue of our Biodiversity Market Report yesterday with coverage of Earthly's collaboration with South Downs National Park Authority and Ben Taylor, whom we recently interviewed, from Iford Estate to offer voluntary biodiversity credits. Biodiversity Net Gain in the UK - required for developers - is serving as a template for the voluntary biodiversity credit market. This is following the trend of Australia and Colombia where there are already biodiversity offset schemes that are complementing the development of a voluntary market.
