Prof. David Padua is one of America's greatest academics in parallel computational benchmarks and loop parallelization @ University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. A lot of his early work - 30 years back relied on array privatization and parallelization of complex reductions. Automatic parallelization lies at the heart of all GPUs. Most DSP operations which require convolutional layers , pooling layers. Almost all of it tries to solve the greatest single practical problem in Systolic array synthesis and nested loop execution. A NxN Matmult is 3 levels of nested for loops. Significant contribution from Intel towards the problem ( Banerjee's theorems) that are mostly known to people in the HPC community. Its also been known as a Wolf-Lam method where indices in loops are subjected to three types of Matrix transformations [i' ; j'] = [ a11 a12 ; a21 a22] *[ i; j]. Loop permutations , Loop reversals and Loop skewing.

📅 #OnThisDay on July 8th, 1946 The University of Pennsylvania's Moore School of Electrical Engineering launched an inspiring summer school on computing that stimulated construction of stored-program computers at universities and research institutions. This free, public set of lectures inspired the EDSAC, BINAC, and, later, IAS machine clones like the AVIDAC. 👩💻 This footage of the ENIAC at the 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 at the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗻𝘀𝘆𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗮 (1946) includes numerous shots of women programmers - considered by many historians as the first modern computer programmers.  🖥️ It also includes shots of ENIAC designers 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗝.
