Autonomous vehicles (AVs) rely on advanced sensors, like polarization cameras, to "see" and safely navigate their environment. Much like human drivers, AVs may find nighttime driving conditions to be more challenging. To help boost performance in low-light conditions, researchers are drawing inspiration from human vision, and developing algorithms that help AVs adjust to dim lighting in real time. Early tests show great promise in improving navigation accuracy, logging a 10% performance boost.
