Researchers from Plymouth University, in collaboration with the Marine Biological Association and the University of the Highlands and Islands Shetland, have conducted extensive surveys around Orbital Marine Power’s O2 tidal turbine in the Orkney Islands. This groundbreaking study aims to enhance understanding of tidal energy systems and plan future deployments along the UK coastline. The O2, the world’s most powerful tidal turbine, can generate 2 MW of power, sufficient to supply 2,000 homes and offset 2,200 tonnes of CO2 annually. The findings, published in Nature Communications, reveal insights into optimal turbine placement, the impact of tidal flows, and the potential for creating favorable foraging spots for seabirds. The research highlights the reliability of tidal energy compared to wind and solar, despite the high costs and technical challenges currently facing the technology. This study underscores the importance of scientific expertise in advancing marine renewable energy. #TidalEnergy #RenewableEnergy #O2Turbine #PlymouthUniversity #MarineEnergy #CleanEnergy #Sustainability

"The Environmental Defense Fund is at ADIPEC because this is where the energy companies are, and we need to make the energy industry cleaner and that can only be done with the energy industry." "AI can have many positive benefits for optimising energy efficiency and reducing emissions from the production of energy. For instance, AI can help make the grid cleaner, it can help integrate more renewable energy, wind, power and solar energy that are variable." says Fred Krupp, President, EDF at ADIPEC 2024. The Fer X Decree is stirring up several controversies, and this is because its text is a play of chasing lights and far too many shadows than the industry expectations. 🔍 With the Decree Fer X, we see a tangible commitment from institutions to support and promote the development of renewable energies in our country. This decree provides a clear roadmap for the sector, outlining support mechanisms and power contingents available for various technologies, including #photovoltaic, #wind, #hydroelectric, and #gas from purification processes. 🌟The point is that only by working closely with industry players is it truly possible to understand what is needed to grow and regulate the complex aspects of this market. We remain positive about the change that is happening and we are ready to take part in it, striving to refine the course. #RevalueEnergies #RevalueOurFuture #RenewableEnergies #Sustainability #FerX

Kozani’s deep dive in key enabling technologies for thermal energy storage. Join us on this transformative journey as #NEUTRONPilot partners unite to create a carbon-free District Heating. Together they are pioneering advanced energy production and consumption technologies to bridge gaps and accelerate climate neutrality. Many European cities use district heating. Kozani already has a well-functioning district heating system. But the heat for this system comes from fossil fuel sources. Kozani, under the NZC’s Pilot Cities Programme, has a short-term plan to convert the city’s district heating system to one that takes advantage of renewable energy instead. As future energy systems should be designed with the aim of wisely exploiting renewable energy sources, waste energy and high-performance technologies, including Thermal Energy Storage (TES), The NEUTRON project is set to use TES technologies for decarbonizing the peak loads. Join us on May 8th for the 2nd Workshop on “Energy Storage Technologies and District Heating Systems” in Jülich. #PilotCities, #EUMissions, #HorizonEU, #MissionCities, #NEUTRONPilot Konstantina Siountri, Kyriaki Sakellariou, Angelos Chasiotis, Dimitrios Tyrovolas, Feni T., Nick Rachovitis, Dimitris-Orfeas Makris, Christos Vlachokostas, Nikolaos Margaritis

Marine renewable energy holds significant promise for diversifying our renewable energy sources, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and addressing climate change. While wave energy converter technology is advancing rapidly, its environmental impacts remain largely unknown, posing a potential barrier to widespread deployment. Here we introduce the Wave Energy Converters Ecological Risk Assessment tool WEC-ERA tool available at https://lnkd.in/erFJw9y6 It captures the intricate interactions between wave farms and the environment and the interactive assessment and visualization of potential ecological risk assessment of three wave energy technologies: oscillating water columns, oscillating wave surge converters, and wave turbines. The tool aims to assist managers, decision-makers, scientists, and project promoters during Strategic Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Assessments for wave energy projects. #Oceanenergy #Marinerenewableenergy #Environmentalimpact #Bluegrowth #Marinespatialplanning #MSP #Decisionsupporttool #GreeDeal SAFEWAVE project AZTI
