#Tuesdaythoughts Last week, I had an interesting conversation with the EMEA Head of Marketing. We were discussing the differences between marketing in EMEA vs APAC. While there are unique nuances to each region, the similarities actually stand out more when you look at factors like localisation, market maturity, and even cultural approaches. The best example I could find was hosting events or running field marketing activities in the Philippines feels surprisingly similar to Southern Europe. Here’s why: Relationship-oriented approach - People prefer informal activities centered around food and networking over anything too corporate. Building strong connections is key. Indirect communication style - Regardless of rank, handshakes are followed by hugs and kisses. It’s all about making personal connections. Flexible approach to time - A 30-minute buffer? That’s the minimum. Things run on their own schedule, but it’s always with warmth and understanding. Incredible energy - There’s always a smile. The energy is infectious, and it’s a joy to engage with people here. As their famous tourism board slogan says “ Love the Philippines” This week, I’m on the road in Manila. Skipping it can lead to higher stress levels due to hormonal imbalance. Studies say so & I can say it’s true for me. 8:30 Time for focus work at the office. Designing a branded give-away for our B2B events that promotes innovating in Helsinki. 9:30 Call with Columbia Road to align on the current paid media campaign that’s creating awareness for the digital domains in Helsinki. Time for mingling followed by Aalto University’s movie Radical Creatives: “Because as humans, as organisations, and as societies, we need creativity more than ever; crises turns us inwards, narrowing mindsets and ways of thinking and doing. A better - but more demanding - option is to stay curious.” 17:00 Feierabend! Off to my dance lesson. Ending the day very Finnish with our sauna shift - a slot you can book in almost every apartment building in Helsinki to enjoy the shared sauna in privacy 🧖🏼♀️ Here’s to more of those perfectly balanced days for all of us - however they look like to you. The red shoes are on! 👠 Truth be told when I attend networking events I get quite nervous walking into a room full of people I don't know, but when I put these shoes on they make me smile remembering a wonderful family holiday to Malaysia we had where I bought them. These shoes ground me: They are a "Consistent Companion" and instantly put me in a positive mindset. I can channel: 🌟 Playfulness & fun 🌟 Positivity 🌟 Creativity & Connection What else helps is that these shoes are made for walking and that's what I do when I first enter the room. I stand and I wander from one person to another. Rather than everyone trapped around a table, confined! Adding movement gives the conversation momentum and I feel that I'm not limited to speaking to only those on either side of me. For those of us more introverted communication styles sitting around a table maintaining eye contact can be quite stressful and intimidating. This intensity decreases when you're up and moving around. Most recently, I wore these shoes at an all day get-together with other facilitators hosted by Kenny Toh Karen Clifford (nee Warlow) Yana Mihos Ginger Tan Adam Lim What I appreciated about the space they welcomed us in was there were no tables instead: ✅ a semi circle of chairs ✅ large windows with natural light and ✅ a door that opened onto an outside balcony... During break times and throughout the day we were invited to move around the space. Of course I took my red shoes outside whenever I could, breathing in the fresh air and looking at the green spaces below. A few months ago, I found myself in Osaka as me and Lindsey Elkin, founder of Yayem, received an incredible invitation to attend an extraordinary event focused on digital nomads. Little did I know that this trip would ignite a love affair with Japan, prompting both of us to embrace Osaka as one of our new homes around the world. Fast forward to now, and I’m living here 🇯🇵, navigating the challenges and opportunities that come with working in a completely different culture. Every day presents its own set of hurdles, from understanding nuances in communication to adapting to the local mindset. At times, I feel like a toddler learning to speak, asking my colleagues for help with the simplest tasks. Yet, it’s in those moments of vulnerability that I find the true magic of teamwork. Their support has been nothing short of humbling, reinforcing the belief that we thrive through collaboration. I’m currently deep in the trenches, organizing an amazing event that will gather founders, investors, and fellow Yayem members from around the globe. It’s a whirlwind of marketing, event management, and coordinating an incredible team—all while immersing myself in the richness of Japanese culture. Today, I had a special opportunity to explore the city with some of my colleagues, sharing laughter and delicious food in a charming neighborhood. These moments remind me why I love what I do and how powerful it is to connect with people from different backgrounds. Meeting Venon Sim over coffee was simply amazing. Isn't it wonderful when a chance encounter feels like reconnecting with an old friend? (𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀: 𝗔𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆!) Thanks to Singapore's vibrant F&B scene. It provides countless opportunities for meaningful connections. This is my favorite aspect of our food culture, and it has been an incredible experience each time. Recently, I caught up with Vernon, a senior from SHATEC - The International Hotel & Tourism School (Singapore) and now an advisor at Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI). I'm grateful for the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences. I also enjoyed a delightful lunch while we chatted. I always find these impromptu meetings rejuvenating, allowing me to gain fresh perspectives, expand my network, and return to the "real world" feeling inspired and ready to tackle new challenges. In today's fast-paced work environment, it's easy to overlook the importance of personal connections. Peace has a picture.  A place. A sound. A memory. As I seek to continuously simplify my surroundings, I am learning to allow nature to lead the way. Taking breaks has been super helpful, even if it means staring into grass or water for a few minutes a day. Since the break in Phuket, the challenge has continuously been to reduce, streamline and focus. One dream and one goal at a time.  (hence, my updates have been slow - be prepared - for a slew of event updates and all those wonderful learnings.) Nature reminds me of a few things, which in the journey of creating and putting our work into the world is essential: 1. Presence 2. A pace on its own terms 3. Awe Essential elements for handling tough questions that you need to have with yourself - how will you live this one precious life? Super excited to be representing The Executive Centre once again at the CoreNet APAC Summit in Malaysia next week, and the topic we're discussing is both close to my heart but also quite unique when it comes to Property.
