🔥 New McKinsey & Company Quantum Technology Monitor The yearly QT monitor is one of the best sources to understand the state of quantum technologies, covering the tech, investor and talent evolution. This year's summary states "Steady progress in approaching the quantum advantage". Maybe not the title I would have chosen, but despite a reduction in private investment the field seems to continue delivering according to the most consistent roadmaps; public investment stays strong as part of geopolitical bets; and talent growth develops as more universities create qt related programs. Something new in this year's release I like: 🚩 A focus on different regions (North America, Asia and Europe) and their main countries. 🚩 Technology details like quantum computer paradigms and their status, explanations of key concepts like quantum control, and 🚩 a discussion on quantum computing benchmarks highlighting a long-missed practical approach ("Difficult to map to application performance (ie, no link to real-life problem or entire stack)") https://lnkd.in/dcrXSWTz #quantum #quantumtechnologies #quantumcomputing #report

There are several factors causing the decrease in private investment into Quantum Technology, including a significant shift in focus toward generative AI as well as lingering perceptions of QT being a long-term technology whose potential in various sectors is still being understood and evaluated. Public funding for quantum technologies, on the other hand, jumped more than 50 percent over 2022. While China and the United States have previously dominated QT public investment, new announcements from Australia, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, and the United Kingdom reflected a growing realization among a broader range of governments of the importance of QT; South Korea and the United Kingdom, in particular, made significant increases to their funding levels (Exhibit 2).
