💬 Yolanda Huerta, Vice Secretary General of International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), gave a keynote speech to set the scene of the #InnoVarINVITE Final Conference Part 1. Sharing her personal experience growing up in a wheat-centric region of Spain, Yolanda has witnessed firsthand the challenges and rewards of cultivating this essential crop, which make her understand very well the importance of work InnoVar has been doing. 🌾Wheat isn’t just a staple—it’s the backbone of food security worldwide, providing sustenance for billions. 30 May is the International Day of the Potato!🥔 Did you know that potatoes are considered a staple food for more than 2/3rds of the world’s population? Did you know that the potato, as we now know it, originated in the Andes Mountains in Peru, arrived in Europe in the late 16th century, and has since been cultivated in just about every country in the world? And did you also know that the global hub of potato breeding is in the Netherlands? Specifically, it’s here in Flevoland, where companies from around the world develop and breed seed potatoes to be delivered and cultivated in more than 100 countries all over Earth. As a result of the unique soil composition in the Flevoland polders, our region has grown to be a center of food and agricultural innovation and production known around the world. This position is supported by dozens of companies, from innovative start-ups to large-scale multinationals, by numerous universities of applied sciences, field labs from Wageningen University & Research, and any number of cluster organizations. This development is the result of collaboration with several esteemed partners from the sector. The II CONJASP - Congress on Jackfruit and Its Potential, held at the UFRB - Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia , built upon the success of the first event, which took place in Ipiaú, Bahia, and laid the foundation for recognizing the jackfruit tree as a strategic resource for the region. This second congress established itself as a scientific and cultural platform aimed at highlighting the importance of jackfruit, an abundant and versatile fruit. Today, December 5th, we celebrate the International Day for Soil Protection and the motto proposed this year is "Caring for soils: measure, monitor, manage". Ruffino strongly believes in this theme and has been working on it for years, being one of the pilot companies in Italy of the ambitious and innovative international project LIFE VitiCaSe, dedicated to #CarbonFarming in viticulture. The project, coordinated by Image Line, with the scientific support of CREA Ricerca, together with wineries in Tuscany and Veneto, is characterized by a series of specific agronomic practices and cultivation techniques, and it has as its main objectives: ·      increase agricultural carbon stocks in soil ·      reduce greenhouse gas emissions ·      contribute to the climate change mitigation  Ruffino is an active part of the program through trials and monitoring of cultivation plans in the vineyard. The project, once completed, involves sharing the study with the entire wine sector to integrate these practices into their agronomic management. #WorldSoilDay
