Today the Flexizyme project, funded by EU commission and Bic consortium has started in Valencia. It will help in substituting fossil chemicals with biobased ones. University of Pisa is partecipating to this project involving its DICI and DCCI Departments

Global cooperation and collaboration are critical to unlocking the potential of science and technology as we strive to build a healthier, greener and brighter future.   Pleased to meet a visiting delegation from the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology (NSCEB) yesterday together with Minister Gan Kim Yong. Besides our health and well-being, biotechnology can help drive advances in areas like sustainability and food security. We had a good discussion on the wide-ranging ties between Singapore and the US, including strong and fruitful linkages between our respective research, innovation and enterprise ecosystems. Our universities and research institutes have built strong partnerships with US counterparts, including through the Duke-NUS Medical School and the Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE).   I encouraged the NSCEB Commissioners to explore how we can further deepen collaborations and pursue research and innovation that can benefit our two countries, as well as others in the region and globally. Working together enables us to leverage one another’s strengths and push the boundaries of science to achieve positive impact. As a Global-Asia node for technology, innovation and enterprise, Singapore looks forward to fostering meaningful collaborations with like-minded partners from around the world for the betterment of all. The overall goal of the event is to foster further development of life sciences, cleantech and advanced manufacturing in Wallonia and Belgium. New Publication Alert! PARI has published a new paper titled “Strengthening Start-Up Ecosystems for Bio-Based Innovations in the Food Sector: Lessons from East Africa”, which assesses opportunities and challenges for bio-based start-ups in East Africa. The findings show that access to finance remains a critical challenge for bio-based start-ups in East Africa. The study recommends increased collaboration between national research institutions, universities, and international partners in creating knowledge, and translating that knowledge to innovation in the region. 🍃 The 2-day kick-off meeting of BIOEAST & BOOST4BIOEAST (B4B) #horizoneurope project and #BIOEAST Annual #Bioeconomy Conference took place at the Natural Science Research Center in Budapest. 🍂 The aim of B4B is to support the Central and Eastern European BIOEAST initiative in the development of research and innovation priorities and bioeconomy action plans in the 11 BIOEAST countries. Happy to share a recent publication stemming from work that I started back in Singapore as part of the Innovation in Food and Chemical Safety (IFCS) Programme at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). The focus of this programme was on non-animal alternatives; our interest in this specific project being the improvement of models to assess the genotoxicity of ingested nanoparticles/nanoingredients present in food. We hope our comparative approach can provide insight into model advantages and limitations, and be used as a framework for future analysis of nanoparticle behavior and toxicity in the gut. https://lnkd.in/d_X2UgfJ
