Excited to announce the launch of our new podcast, Code and Country. In our debut episode, I had the privilege of sitting down with Chris Lynam, Director General of the National Cybercrime Coordination Centre at the RCMP. We chatted about the challenges of cybersecurity and its vital role in protecting infrastructure and safeguarding democratic institutions. Check out the link below to see our full interview.
Is it on Apple Podcasts? Not showing up in my podcast app yet
As a Canadian, I found this episode of the podcast very interesting! What resonated with me was the, "focusing on the basics" piece. As much as there is a collective Cybersecurity effort across Canada, I still feel that our country has a long way to go with tightening up security measures. Especially at the very moment of reporting a cyber crime to the authorities. Drawing from personal experience, one day I had tried to correctly report a .onion site from Tor within our jurisdiction. Upon making a report, I had a rep. take my call that had no technical knowledge of what I was explaining and seemed confused, not knowing where to direct me to. Then I was directed to a website that I could submit a report to. Which, after all this time, I never received an update from. If we could somehow provide further education within the municipal police forces to understand those types of cyber threats, I feel that there could be proper reporting and responses to even more cyber crimes. Additionally, more companies in Canada need to invest more in their Cybersecurity efforts to prevent issues such as Ransomware attacks. I find that a lot of companies, small and large, are very vulnerable. Great episode and insights!
