irl Networking doesn’t have to be awkward. but, it’s the worst when you hate talking to strangers. here’s the thing: when diving into the networking pool, people want to know the real you, not just your LinkedIn highlights. they’re on the lookout for two key things: 1. Shared interests. Folks are eager to find that magical connection - a common passion, goal, or hobby that bonds you beyond a simple chat. 2. Your vibe. They're checking if you're fun to hang out with or as exciting as watching paint dry. No one wants to deal with awkward vibes. imagine this: a cozy dinner where you can mingle with strangers in a stress-free environment. Sound like your cup of tea? by the end of the meal, you might just walk away with a new friend, turning a stranger into a potential sidekick! sign up and attend Goodie Nation and Atlanta Black Tech community dinners. https://lnkd.in/dx86ckFX

Thanks to everyone who attended today’s Fireside Chat on the hidden benefits of having a diverse network 🧑🤝🧑 As portfolio professionals, we’re constantly on the hunt for new opportunities, and networking gives you access to those opportunities. Here are a few gems from today’s chat to help you up your networking game: ✨ Be interested, not interesting. Approach every conversation to listen and learn rather than sell yourself. ✨ Find the networking style that works for you. Not everyone thrives on LinkedIn and some people prefer to keep things virtual. ✨ Don’t go into networking thinking about what you can gain. Consider how you can help others. ✨ Remember that networking reinforces your personal brand. It gives you visibility and exposure, and it builds your reputation. ✨ The best call to action is following up. Get to know someone authentically and make sure to stay in touch. A huge thanks to our panellists Mike Wilner, Paul David Mather💡 Mather and Fiona Chorlton-Voong for sharing their words of wisdom. We’ll be pausing events for the summer but we encourage you to come along to Community Networking next Friday - it’s a special birthday edition you won’t want to miss! Here’s how I try to make genuine connections at networking events: 1. Be the most interested person there, not the most interesting. Genuine curiosity unlocks more doors than posturing does. 2. Forget about what YOU’RE hoping to get out of the exchange. Try to focus on what you can do to help the person you’re meeting. 3. Show up as your authentic self. Be vocal about what you’re working on and what you’re hoping to learn. People can’t help you if you aren’t honest.

Who likes networking? Be honest! 🙋♀️🙋♂️ As essential as it is for business, it receives a bad rap largely because people have misconceptions about how it "should" be done. Networking isn't confined to large-scale events where you spend hours introducing yourself and asking the same questions to dozens of people, all while missing your child's bedtime and waking up with a hangover. You can create your own model. 🗣️ I personally prefer small, intimate discussions. When I couldn't find events that matched my preferences, I started organizing them myself. I choose people I genuinely want to engage with, set times that suit my schedule, and pick enjoyable locations that don't revolve around drinking. Here's a snippet from this week's meetup in the park with fellow On Deck founders!
