Empowering Black Male Youth Through Effective Mentorship 💛 As apart of our "Friends in Mentorship" campaign we will be sharing articles, having discussions, and more around the power of mentorship! Here are some insights from a recent report by the American Institutes for Research on "Effective Strategies for Mentoring African American Boys." 📚 Key Findings: - Targeted Support: The report emphasizes the importance of tailored mentorship programs that address the unique needs and challenges faced by African American boys. - Building Trust: Establishing trust between mentors and mentees is crucial for effective mentorship outcomes. This trust forms the foundation for positive developmental experiences and academic success. - Role Modeling: Positive role models play a significant role in shaping the aspirations and self-perceptions of young black males. Mentorship programs that emphasize role modeling can inspire confidence and ambition. - Community Engagement: Engaging families and the broader community in mentorship efforts enhances support networks and reinforces positive outcomes for participants. Why It Matters Effective mentorship has the power to transform lives by providing guidance, encouragement, and opportunities for growth. By implementing these strategies, we aim to make a lasting impact on the lives of black male youth in our community. Join Us: We invite you to join our mission to support and empower black male youth through mentorship! To the organizations up North and out West, You might see an influx of applicants from Southern states like Texas. You might notice that many of us do not have titles that include "diversity, equity, inclusion". You might assume that this type of work is one we are not familiar with, and pass up on us because our outputs or KPI's do not match the terminology you're looking for on paper. But don't sleep on us applicants coming up from the South. Instead: 1. Ask us how we were so moved by Bettina Love's body of work that we carefully and quietly found our co-conspirators among our work colleagues. 2. Ask us how we developed our own Anti-Bias Community of Practices where we could create spaces of safety and healing for ourselves and our allies - and just called it a "meeting" on our calendars. 3. Ask us how we showed up to strategy meetings with our frameworks guided by Gloria Ladson-Billings and Beverly Tatum so we could quietly push for pedagogical liberation through our work - and do it shoulder to shoulder with a colleague that claimed they couldn't be racist because they have "black friends". 4. Ask us how we showed up to work everyday, fully committed to all children and teachers, knowing that just down the road, legislation was being passed to limit any iota of work dedicated to equity. 5. Ask us how we did the mental gymnastics of coding language to ensure we were interrogating policies and practices that re-generated oppressive systems within ourselves and our work. Because we have answers. We have some serious stories to tell that would dissolve any doubt in your mind that we weren't "doing the work". #askus

Applying the law or the policy is not the only aspect of inclusion. A strategy for success, development, acceptance, and support is inclusion. Everyone has to be involved and included.

📣Calling out inherent bias! Last night, I had the honour of joining Stephen Nolan on BBC Five Live to discuss my previous post about the bias people face when accessing leisure and activity centres🔎✋ Our conversation shed light on the pressing need to address and challenge the biases that exist within our society, particularly in the context of play and exercise for our children. 🚫 Inclusive play is not just a buzzword; it's a vital aspect of fostering equality and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to develop and grow. 🌟💪 By recognising and challenging these biases head-on, we can pave the way for a more inclusive, supportive, and equitable environment for all children. It's time to break down the barriers that hinder their access to play and physical activity. 🚀🤸♀️ I invite you all to join me in this crucial conversation. Let's explore how we can dismantle the systems that perpetuate bias and work towards creating a society that embraces diversity and inclusion at its core. 🤝🌍 If you missed the Radio Give Live interview, you can catch up on the discussion here at 01:06 : https://lnkd.in/exuXTV_x Let's come together, challenge our assumptions, and pave the way for a brighter future where every child has an equal opportunity to thrive. 🌟🌈 Check out the work we do at Learn and Thrive #InclusivePlayMatters #ChallengeBias #StartTheConversation 🌟🌟

I love this! This is the type of BCBA I would love to be. I have shut down when I have had too much correction and not enough reinforcement from supervisors. An RBT needs respect in this way. How about we use least to most prompt which role modeling would be benefit over verbal prompt which is the most commonly used during supervision.
DM me to join the world's #1 BCBA email community where we discover how to "BCBA Better!" >> Hiring BCBAs in GA & NJ to work with our highly trained ABA therapists >> Founder @ Circle Care Services 👉 Reach out!
An RBT should never be told that (s)he’s doing something wrong. Instead, show them the “right” or best way to do it. When they hear from the BCBA or other superiors that they’re “wrong”, they’ll get defensive and likely shut down. And that will lower the future quality of their work all around, guaranteed. It’s so important to keep that respect level high and allow them to maintain dignity even as they’re bring shown the right way to do it. I hold this as sacred when dealing with anyone in my office! But it’s especially poignant when you’re dealing with the RBT-BCBA relationship which is so critical to all that we do.
