Small-scale augmented reality activations are STILL often overlooked. A huge factor of this is the tech itself - it took me a lot to shrink real-time effects to this size, and in a limited way (it only works as well as a camera can stay focused on a tracker at any distance) in these nails below from 2021 using Meta Spark. It’s still difficult if not impossible to achieve the stability of a target tracker with available hand or finger tracking on social AR, but it’s promising that this will catch up soon. Downsizing a concept can have a wildly novel and magical effect. Physical details have limits where digital details have possibilities. #augmentedreality

🔸 What does the future hold for AI, VR and AR in media and advertising? One of hottest topics in the industry continues to be how AI will change how we advertise, what we advertise and how we work. VR and AR technologies have been adopted at a rapidly growing rate by advertisers, with the likes of 'Faux OOH', gaming and custom social media experiences popping up across categories. But, many are left wondering whether these technologies are just a fad, or whether they're here to stay. In a recent contribution piece for Campaign Middle East, Yohan Wadia, Creative and Innovation Lead at Wavemaker MENA shared his thoughts on how AI, VR and AR can empower teams, craft more compelling media, and unlock innovation and success for brands. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐇𝐚𝐬 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐧 Meta’s recent release of the 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐑 𝐆𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 is a major leap forward in blending AR and AI into a seamless user experience. Until now, we’ve seen impressive AR headsets like the 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 and 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨 (which, by the way, offered the best visual experience I’ve ever had). But despite their innovation, these devices struggle to integrate into our daily lives without being obtrusive. With Meta’s latest demo, however, we got a glimpse of what the future of AR could look like: powerful AI and AR capabilities in something as simple and familiar as a pair of glasses. It’s still early days—hardware is expensive and software has its limitations—but the vision is clear. We’re on the cusp of making immersive AR a natural, non-intrusive part of everyday life.

#Meta has released the Ray-Ban Stories, smart glasses that offer audio and video recording but without AR capabilities, their vision for AI-integrated AR glasses aligns with broader goals to create immersive and intuitive ways to interact with the digital world. Meta aims to develop AI systems that can understand the environment, context, and user preferences to provide real-time assistance, potentially merging with AR devices to enhance everyday experiences. #Meta #AIGlass #Mark

Snapchat made cool strides in AR and AI. Recently, I gave them a sample photo of Steve Jobs and Elon Musk, and the result was stunning. Snapchat’s ability to innovate in AR and VR really sets them apart from competitors. They’re also heavily investing in AI, which adds an entirely new layer of possibilities. With the world having a text-to-image moment for text-to-3D model creation. It would be incredibly easy to design immersive AR filters and even entire virtual worlds within them. The potential is endless, and the speed of innovation is only accelerating. Historically, during major technological revolutions, it’s been the interface companies that come out on top. But I believe the convergence of AR, VR, and AI is going to reshape everything. For the first time in human history, we have technology that challenges not only our cognitive abilities but also our capacity for both the quality and quantity of work, along with how we see and interact with the world changing. That’s why I think this revolution will play out differently. Smaller, underdog companies could outperform the giants. A great example is Anthropic, which has outpaced OpenAI in terms of speed, accuracy, and innovation. I could be wrong, but I can’t help but be amazed by what Snapchat is doing with its filters—it really highlights the exciting future ahead.
