Who we are; version 1.8 See below how we contribute to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12, which focuses on responsible consumption and production, through several key practices and initiatives: 1. Sustainable Agricultural Practices: We at glofarm promotes environmentally friendly farming techniques that reduces waste, conserve water, and maintain soil health. 2. Waste Reduction: By implementing strategies for reducing food waste along the supply chain, we adopt practices such as composting and reusing agricultural by-products, minimizing the environmental impact of waste. 3. Local Sourcing: By focusing on local food systems, what we try to do is reduces the carbon footprint associated with food transportation, supporting more sustainable consumption patterns within communities. We believe implementing some of the above strategies will position us to contribute to promoting responsible consumption and production.

Today we hosted the Hybrid Conference " Nourishing Europe - Financing the path to resilient and sustainable food systems?". Thank you to all who joined us, and to our panellists. Here are the key takeaways from our speakers: 🔸Martin Van Driel from European Commission “The government budgets are not enough. We will need to look at other resources, private resources, if possible, which can be banks, but also the consumers, the value chain, which will have a role to play.” 🔸MEP Herbert Dorfmann “The CAP can be a key driver of sustainable food production in Europe, but we must consider all its dimensions: ecological, social, and economic. A farmer who fails economically cannot produce food that is ecologically sustainable.” 🔸 Faustine Bas-Defossez from the European Environmental Bureau “By fuelling climate breakdown and destroying ecosystems, Europe's current food systems threaten food production and millions of livelihoods, harming current and future EU competitiveness and costing EU taxpayers billions each year. EU funds must be channelled towards a sustainable future that puts nature, farmers and human health at its heart.” 🔸Marion Picot from CEJA Young Farmers “Young farmers are amongst the most willing to invest in their future. They have an innovative mindset and aspire to make an impact. They are also facing barriers in their access to finance: lack of capital and collaterals, little to no buffer space for the unforeseen, and a finance ecosystem that is not adapted to farm-specific needs.” 🔸Chris Adamo from Danone “One of the learnings for us has been how do we work upstream with farmers more directly. We are doing that in many countries, primarily with dairy. We are not just buying the commodity, we are partnering with the farms, we are trying to understand what are their challenges. We are thinking about it in a regenerative agriculture context. Fundamentally, it is a broad holistic framework that we can apply to almost any farming system for us to learn what are the challenges that farmers face. Not just for sustainability, but for business resilience.” 🎤 Moderated by: Mariam Zaidi 👉 Watch the recording here: https://eurac.tv/9XmS

【What do you know about floating farms in Netherlands? 】 The Netherlands is home to the world's first floating farm, located in Rotterdam! Here's the scoop on this innovative project: 1) Pioneering Project: The brainchild of Peter and Minke van Wingerden, the Floating Farm opened in May 2019. It's a dairy farm that houses around 40 cows and produces fresh milk and yogurt processed on-site 2) Focus on Sustainability: This farm prioritizes a green approach. It uses solar panels for energy, collects rainwater for purification, and feeds the cows with recycled food products from the city like brewer's spent grain and potato scraps 3) Building Resilience: The Floating Farm's location on water offers protection against rising sea levels, a growing concern due to climate change. It also shortens food transportation distances, promoting a more sustainable and local food system 4) Future Plans: The initial success of the dairy farm has led to plans for expansion. The team is considering adding a floating chicken coop and a greenhouse for vegetables, creating a multi-functional farm Overall, the Floating Farm in Netherlands is a fascinating example of innovation in agriculture. It combines sustainable practices with climate change adaptation, offering a glimpse into the potential of future food production systems. Seaweed bioplastics among Kent projects receiving sustainability grants 🤝🪙 Growing Kent & Medway, a regional research cluster, has awarded grants totalling £200,000 to six innovative local businesses via its Business Sustainability Challenge. The grants, worth between £10,000 and £50,000, will allow the businesses to undertake short-term, high-impact projects aimed at promoting sustainability in the food and drink sectors. A diverse range of initiatives have been funded, including developing fermented snacks from rescued fruits and vegetables, producing sustainable packaging from brewers' spent grain, and optimising water and fertiliser use in indoor farming through data management platforms. Each will work towards a commercial and environmentally sustainable solution for local supply chains. Raffinerie Tirlemontoise - Tiense Suikerraffinaderij, BENEO and Puratos have joined forces to launch a pioneering Climate Farming Project. The ambitious initiative supports Belgian farmers in implementing more #sustainable farming practices and promotes #regenerative agricultural principles that contribute to enhancing soil health and reducing environmental impact. BENEO’s Corporate Sustainability Manager, Nathalie Sadin comments: “Considering the entire value chain of our functional ingredients is key to supporting the transition towards a sustainable food system. This includes how the crops that we later process are grown. There is no doubt that the search for more sustainable cultivation methods requires close collaboration with farmers. Supporting them with climate change resilience and regenerative practices is a key element within our sustainability strategy. This is why we are excited to be part of this joint project that enables the exchange of know-how and experience in this area.” Curious to learn more about the project? WELCOME to Vertical Lake! Our purpose is to nourish the planet in a way that's clean, safe, healthy and sustainable for future generations. When we look at the global population that is growing and an undeniable climate change occurring, and then we compare traditional protein food production methods which are consuming vast amounts of water and waste, emitting vast greenhouse gases and using a lot of valuable space, we see an intangible problem and rightly so, more and more consumers are also demanding organic, sustainable farming methods. We are revolutionising sustainable protein agriculture with the world's first truly vertical freshwater aquaculture lake system. Our system is highly circular in nature being water-efficient, space-efficient, net zero carbon and recycles its waste. This aligns perfectly with global demands for sustainable and circular food production. Our protein is Omega3 rich and along with our bio-pesticide fertilisers is sustainable and 100% organic. We produce edible (freshwater) fish for human consumption for local markets and dried fishmeal (ground). Our dry protein derivatives are to be sold to super-premium ‘organic’ protein markets, internationally. We're currently finalising development of our highly scalable and modular technology, working to commercialise in 2026. We have pre-commercial revenues, a growing customer base and pull and, as well as feeding people whilst protecting our planet, our business model is highly profitable. Business with an impact can exist. Follow us on our aqua journey!

🌾 European Grain Market Insight 🌾 Today, the drive for sustainability is changing the landscape of grain and oil trading across Europe. As consumers demand more environmentally friendly products, governments and companies are turning to regenerative farming practices to reduce their environmental impact. These changes not only contribute to healthier ecosystems, but also ensure long-term soil health and crop resilience. We are proud to work with farmers and suppliers who adhere to these practices, delivering the highest quality, environmentally friendly products. By investing in the sustainable grain industry, we are helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals, one product at a time. As these changes accelerate, the EU is also setting stricter rules for environmentally friendly farming practices, making it necessary for producers and traders to adapt. We are keeping pace by working closely with industry experts and policy makers to ensure that our practices meet and often exceed these evolving standards. Our goal is to create a network of like-minded partners committed to sustainability at every stage of the process. How do you see sustainability influencing the future of food?
