This week, all eyes for managing cloud costs are on #FinOps X, which will be in San Diego from Wednesday to Friday this week. I’ll be on the ground catching up with many of your and my favorite vendors and having some great conversations with current clients. My coverage there will probably be a little bit different than usual, as this event is very end user focused with a premium on end user privacy. This means I won’t be able to directly cover the keynotes or interview any end users. But there will still be plenty to analyze between vendor announcements, and updates on FinOps standards such as FOCUS as well as the FinOps Foundation’s recent shift to include #SaaS within cloud FinOps. As you all know, I’ve also been covering SaaS management for the past six years and it is very different from #publiccloud FinOps, which I’ve covered for the past 10 years: different buyers, different strategies, and different functional areas. It will be interesting to see how the FinOps Foundation structures associated with shift left and technical support of cloud FinOps align with the line of business and procurement focus that SaaS management has been pulled towards. Excited for FinOps X 2024 next week: https://x.finops.org/us/. As organizations accelerate their cloud adoption, the lines between FinOps and Cloud Cost Management continue to blur, such that cloud financial management and technical operations are no longer separate entities, but intertwined components of a cohesive strategy. It means that C-level executives, finance teams, and cloud architects must collaborate to optimize cloud spend, drive business agility, and unlock innovation. The intersection of FinOps and Cloud Cost Management presents an opportunity to rethink traditional budgeting and resource allocation. By leveraging financial management tools and practices, organizations can shift from reactive cost-cutting to proactive, data-driven decision-making. This requires a cultural shift, a willingness to break down silos, and a commitment to transparency and accountability. Principles we share as part of our thriving and growing FinOps Community. Have fun in San Diego!

What sets Maryville Consulting Group apart is our commitment to culture of continuous improvement. With each new customer, we bring not just solutions, but the valuable lessons learned from our collective experiences. It's this collaborative spirit that fuels our growth and drives meaningful results for our clients. In 2021, we ventured into FinOps with the establishment of our FinOps Practice - focused on cloud optimization through strategic engagement of business, finance and engineering teams. I was excited for my colleagues to leverage and apply that continuous improvement mindset, and appreciative that a core set of customers and partners trusted us with a new set of challenges. Fast forward to today, we've helped dozens of Fortune 500 organizations with establishing accountability models around cloud optimization, giving our customers the blueprints for how to leverage people, process and technology to drive effective use of the cloud. I am excited for FinOps X, and excited for another year of compounding growth through a culture of continuous improvement. #finops #cloudoptimization #spendmanagement #productmanagement The Product Model

Hey LinkedIn Community, as organizations increasingly migrate to the cloud, the need for effective cloud cost management has become a top priority. But managing cloud spend is only half the battle - the real challenge lies in aligning cloud costs with business outcomes. This is where FinOps comes in, providing a financial lens through which to view cloud spending and resource allocation. By applying FinOps principles to cloud cost management, we can move beyond mere cost optimization and start to drive real business value from our cloud investments. FinOps means using financial data to inform cloud architecture decisions, and using cloud usage data to inform financial planning. It means creating a culture of accountability and transparency around spending, and empowering teams to make data-driven decisions that drive business outcomes. The possibilities are vast, and the benefits are clear: improved cost efficiency, increased agility, and a more strategic approach to cloud adoption. To learn more about FinOps, check out the rapidly growing community at https://www.finops.org/ and consider attending FinOpsX 2024 in San Diego, next month. 🙂

🚨 Is FinOps facing an existential crisis? 🚨 According to Kyle Campos there are two major reasons why FinOps isn’t living up to its promise: 1️⃣ It can’t demonstrate its value to the business. 2️⃣ It’s disconnected from the teams that make cloud magic happen—engineering. If FinOps is going to survive (and thrive), it needs more than just better metrics—it needs third-generation tools that can close these gaps once and for all. Curious about how? Kyle breaks it all down in his latest piece, exploring what’s needed to finally turn FinOps into a strategic powerhouse that drives real impact. 🚀 🔗 Dive into the full article here: https://hubs.ly/Q02VH1jv0 What’s your take? #FinOps #CloudStrategy #CostOptimization #CloudBolt
