The HEA - in partnership with Renewables UK, the REA, Hydrogen East, the North-West Hydrogen Alliance, Scottish Renewables, Hydrogen Southwest, the Carbon Capture and Storage Association, the Decarbonised Gas Alliance, and the Midlands Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Network recently announced 10 key actions to support the successful scale-up of hydrogen. The seventh of these was to define Hydrogen internal combustion as zero carbon to allow the UK to reap economic and employment benefits across UK manufacturing. Hydrogen ICE is an internal combustion engine that uses hydrogen as fuel. Green hydrogen isn't just a resource for soaking up excess renewable capacity. It can work the other way too, turning down when electricity production is low to help balance the grid 👇. And in one of the first deals I can remember hearing about, Lhyfe and ENERGY POOL are partnering in France to do just that, signing an agreement for five sites with a total combined capacity of 30MW to provide demand-side response for five years from 2025. This will reduce load on the grid and avoid power cuts during peak periods such as winter or heatwaves without having to call on fossil fuel power stations to make up any shortfall. This reduces emissions, supports renewable deployment and improves the stability of the grid. With demand-side response markets set for further development here in the UK, and green hydrogen production facilities now being developed following recently successful auctions, this could soon be something coming here too to support delivery of clean power by 2030. #hydrogen #energytransition #renewables

A groundbreaking initiative is set to link America and Europe with the largest hydrogen highway ever conceived.
