I spent an enjoyable evening yesterday in Venice 🇮🇹 moderating the panel discussion on "Software-Now - Developing, Simulation, and Validation Challenges" on SoftNet 2024 Congress. Thanks to the panelists Simona Vasilache, Radek Kočí, Luigi Lavazza, Carlo Simon, Jos van Rooijen, Hayk Aslanyan for the great discussion! So the rain didn't matter. Thank you, Petre Dini, for doing what you do. Also delivered the presentation of my paper "Building Model-Based Code Generators for Lower Development Costs and Higher Reuse", BTW. Thanks to #iaria and NORDAKADEMIE Hochschule der Wirtschaft for supporting. https://lnkd.in/gNTKMm7V

A Heuristic Method to Evaluate Web Accessibility for Users with Low Vision via @IEEEAccess: https://lnkd.in/dNsPgktk ? Web Accessibility: Ranking Isn’t Everything ? As the internet becomes more central to daily life, ensuring web accessibility for all users—including those with age-related challenges like low vision, hearing loss, or reduced motor skills—is crucial. But how do we truly assess how accessible a website is? ? In our latest research, we modified the Barrier Walkthrough method (based on WCAG 2.1) to measure web accessibility, focusing on severity of barriers. We tested 40 websites—30 from top-ranked Latin American universities and 10 of the most visited globally. The findings were clear: high rankings don’t guarantee accessibility. ?? While automated tools are fast and low-cost, they often fall short. Our method, though more manual, provides richer insights but also highlights the need for a balance between speed and accuracy. Our work underscores the ongoing challenge of making the web more inclusive and opens the door for future studies on improving web accessibility heuristics. ?? #WebAccessibility #Inclusion #UX #Heuristics #DigitalInclusion #AccessibilityMatters

Yes, you should ask your users what they WANT in a product. But don’t stop there. You also need to study what they actually DO when they interact with your prototype or product—because what individuals claim about their behavior is often unreliable. To give you the insights you need to build the best product, we often suggest several of these user research methods. Learn why MichiganLabs’ Peter Steen believes user research is the heartbeat of successful product development in our latest blog. https://bit.ly/3Wb8KW9

Maximizing value from “informal” human factors (HF) activities Is your team conducting "informal" HF activities without realizing their potential for regulatory submissions? In our latest blog post, Emilee and Suruchi describe how to identify and document these activities, transforming them into comprehensive, submission-worthy content. Documenting informal human factors engineering and usability activities can help manufacturers demonstrate thorough HFE and design processes in their submissions to regulators. New Flux upscaling ControlNet! The Flux ControlNet family is growing! Jasper.ai, the team behind the open-source Flash Diffusion model, has just released three exciting new ControlNets: one for depth, one for normal maps, and the highly anticipated upscale model. This upscale model operates by first downsizing the original image and then upscaling it, injecting additional noise through the Variation noise node in ComfyUI. It’s particularly effective for enhancing noisy or blurred images, helping to restore clarity and detail. However, while this method works wonders on images that are already compromised in quality, it tends to add excessive sharpness to images that are already clean and sharp. As a result, it may not be the best fit for high-quality images where precision is key. In essence, we can consider this a Flux Supir variation of the workflow—one that's powerful for improving degraded visuals but may need refinement when dealing with already well-defined images. While the official Comfy workflow isn't available yet, I'm attaching an image which can guide you to create your own (made by u/Dezordan).
