AI? WRAP IT UP. I'LL TAKE IT...FOR NOW.
Hey, Honolulu Tech Week attendees—let's talk about AI.
The energy this past week has been electric. You could feel it in every conversation, every demo, every bold idea. But as we soak in the buzz, there’s something critical we need to address:
AI Is Evolving Faster Than We’re Reacting.
We’re on the edge of a seismic shift. Since GPT-4’s release just 18 months ago, Generative AI has revolutionized how we create content, streamline workflows, and drive efficiency. We’ve relied on tools that wrap complex models in user-friendly interfaces. And guess what? It’s worked...for now.
But here’s the wake-up call: This is just the beginning. The landscape is moving from Generative AI to something far more disruptive: Agentic AI. We’re shifting from models that generate content to systems that act—autonomously executing tasks, making decisions, and learning in real time. Agentic AI will change the game. We’re either ready for it—or we’ll be left behind.
Why Does This Matter?
Because the world isn’t waiting for us to catch up. While we’re busy refining AI wrappers, agentic systems are being built that bypass the need for those wrappers altogether. These systems won’t just help—they’ll do. Imagine an AI that doesn’t just assist with marketing but creates, launches, and optimizes your entire campaign. That’s the future of Agentic AI, and it’s approaching faster than we think.
The Next Step: AGI
If Agentic AI sounds revolutionary, AGI—Artificial General Intelligence—is the ultimate game-changer. Unlike Agentic AI, which focuses on specific tasks, AGI will perform any intellectual task a human can. In the next three years, AGI is expected to transcend task-specific systems, learning, adapting, and solving problems across multiple domains. It will make decisions autonomously, eliminating the need for wrappers, platforms, or even agentic systems—completely transforming how we interact with AI.
Consider a business owner needing to optimize supply chains, manage finances, and create marketing strategies simultaneously. With AGI, she could describe her goals, and the system would independently analyze data, predict trends, optimize logistics, manage budgets, and execute marketing campaigns. AGI wouldn’t just assist—it would run the business autonomously, freeing her to focus on strategic decisions.
So What Now?
Honolulu Tech Week wasn’t just a celebration of innovation—it was a CTA. We must rethink how we approach AI, how we structure our businesses, and how we prepare for the unstoppable wave coming our way.
We’re at a crossroads: Will we keep relying on tools we’re comfortable with, or will we start preparing for the Agentic and AGI-driven world?
So, wrap it up. I’ll take it…for now. But we should all be watching the horizon—and not just for our beautiful sunsets.
