I take stories apart like a archeologist digging through a historical site. We look at each piece and determine what is valuable and what can go. Does this part move us forward? Does this matter to the audience? Do they need to know this? It's not easy -- most of my clients are attached to their words, their stories and their anecdotes. You can't use everything. Recently I was working with a leader who opened with a powerful story about a family living on a garbage dump. It had nothing to do with the work they do but the story was compelling. it was also confusing. I spoke the words I knew the audience would think. "Why are we talking about a family living on garbage when you want me to build a school for children? Why don't we get that family out of the garbage?" She was shocked -- "people always have questions about the garbage dump." She saw the questions as interest. I knew it was a distraction. She agreed to drop the story and we rebuilt her story around the powerful work of the school and the impact to one child. She didn't get questions about the dump, but she did raise more donations than ever! Are you ready to rebuild your story? Let's dig it up and make it great together. __________ I help speakers, fundraisers and leaders tell the story that inspire hearts and increase giving. Let's talk about how I can help your story today!

Happy St. Nicholas Day! Third Century Patron Saint was known for selling off his own items and then giving the money to the poor. He would commonly leave coins in people’s shoes and dedicated his entire life to serving people who were sick and suffering. This is how he gained his saint status and is what inspired St. Nicholas Day (also commonly known as Feast Day or the Feast of St. Nicholas). As time passed St. Nicholas Day began in different ways. In Italy, this day was celebrated with feasts, gift-giving, and festivals. In other European countries like Germany and the Netherlands, children would leave their shoes or special St. Nicholas boot in front of the fireplace or front door at night and find presents in them in the morning. The history of St. Nicholas and his good deeds was part of the inspiration of the modern-day Santa Claus and Father Christmas, which is why there are some current traditions of leaving gifts in people’s boots or shoes (or stockings). Today, we celebrate the spirit of giving and kindness inspired by St Nicholas, a symbol of compassion and generosity. At Peaceful Hugs, we embrace this spirit every day by supporting families, seniors, and children in need across Michigan. Whether it provides food, clothing, or a warm place to stay, we believe small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Let’s spread love, hope, and care today—and every day—just as St. Nicholas would. If you’d like to join us in making a difference, consider donating or volunteering with Peaceful Hugs. Together, we can create miracles for those who need them most. #StNicholasDay #Peacefulhugs #Spreadkindness #Giveback

Delighted to get this gorgeous copy of Nonprofit Quarterly signed by the featured author Sará King, M.A., Ph.D. : Activating Loving Awareness. "I talk about love and loving-awareness not as phenomena of which I purport to be an expert but rather as “North Stars,” to exemplify a way of being toward ourselves and one another that I think encapsulates what it might mean to live in a state of individual and collective wellbeing." https://lnkd.in/guM2dYp2

Here are some ways to help kids understand Thanksgiving this week: 1) Teach the significance: Explain the traditions and share family stories. 2) Discuss the food: Talk about the foods that are shared and why. Practice gratitude: Keep a gratitude journal or write thank-you notes. 3) Involve kids in preparation: Ask them to help with the dinner or make crafts. 4) Teach generosity: Donate together or share with people in need. Practice kindness: Encourage children to express appreciation for others. 5) Read books: Use books like 1621: A New Look at Thanksgiving to teach the history of Thanksgiving. Consider the history of Thanksgiving for Native Americans: Explain that for many Native Americans, Thanksgiving symbolizes a history of mourning. How will you share your learnings about Thanksgiving with your family? Love the ten and live the promise! #Squeezetencommandments #lovethetenandlivethepromise

Tip Tuesday: Celebrate What God is Doing! 🎉 Sometimes our church congregations don’t fully buy into the mission and goals of the church, especially as it relates to their finances, simply because they aren’t aware of all the good that God is doing in and through the church. Regularly celebrating wins fosters a culture of gratitude and helps people feel excited about how their donations are being put to good use. 🌟 Action Step: Share updates during services, in newsletters, and on social media about the amazing work your church is accomplishing. Here are some key questions to consider for your legacy: 1️⃣ Do you want to support your parish when you're gone? 2️⃣ Is there a Catholic school you, your children, or grandchildren attended you want to consider in your legacy? 3️⃣ Have you supported the Bishop's Appeal? If so, would you like to support the Bishop and his ministries forever through the Bishop's Appeal Endowment? 4️⃣ Or are there Catholic causes, like the local homeless shelter, you'd like to think of in your plan? And, one final question remains: What legacy will YOU leave? The Catholic Foundation is here to help! Email [email protected] to start your legacy today.
