U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo gave a great interview on 60 MINUTES last night. Let's pull on some threads discussed: First, Secretary Raimondo was a #VC before entering public office. We need more industry personnel in D.C. to help policymakers understand industry POV, or at least understand how we approach and interpret federal policy and rules. Second, she's right, industrial policy can have a huge effect on American innovation and national security. However, the "market" hasn't gotten it wrong in the last few decades, but the U.S. hasn't properly incentivized it. The private markets will always be incentivized with profit. It is our job as VCs, and as an industry, to show investors we can build great companies investing in #American #innovators. We've done that with Marlinspike and will continue to amplify the potential of what's happening on our shores. The government has a role to play in partnership with the private sector. This is how we win.
