Apollo Global Management, Inc. and Marc Rowan have been true pioneers in changing the way financial markets now operate. They've made private investing mainstream and shifted our thinking around alternatives. Their innovation is something every Silicon Valley start-up should be proud of (and at massive scale!). https://lnkd.in/gH8rKAnu - this clip sums it up perfectly. Also ties in nicely what Matt Clifford was mentioning around PE innovating more than VC. https://lnkd.in/gDarqs3h Selected 5 year share price increases: Apollo Global Management, Inc. - 260%+ Meta - 218%+ Microsoft - 198%+ Google - 170%+ Amazon - 118%+ 🤷♀️

Silicon Valley Heavyweight Throws Weight Behind Trump: It's All About Tech, Baby Hold onto your hats, folks, because this one's a doozy. Marc Andreessen, the co-founder of venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), just dropped a bombshell: he's ditching the Democrats and throwing his support behind Donald Trump in 2024. Why the switch? Andreessen, a self-proclaimed lifelong Democrat, says it all boils down to one thing: tech. He believes Trump's policies are way more startup-friendly than Biden's, and that the future of America hinges on tech dominance. Here's the a16z breakdown: Tech is King: Andreessen and co-founder Ben Horowitz argue that tech, along with a strong economy and military, is the holy trinity that made America great. They say the US won the Cold War because of its technological superiority, and that we need to maintain that edge. Biden's Stifling Startups: Andreessen slams Biden's administration for "overregulating" AI and potentially crippling startups with taxes on unrealized capital gains. He says this would be a death knell for innovation. Trump Gets It: Andreessen paints Trump as a champion of tech, citing his pro-crypto stance and his understanding of the AI arms race with China. The Final Straw: Andreessen calls Biden's proposed tax on unrealized capital gains "the final straw." He argues that this would force startups to pay taxes on paper profits, effectively killing the industry. The Takeaway: This is a major endorsement from a major player in Silicon Valley. Andreessen's argument is that tech is the key to America's future, and that Trump is the best bet to keep us ahead of the curve. https://lnkd.in/eH-N4Ugu

This week, the venture capital OGs Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz officially shifted their long-standing bipartisan political stance to full support for Trump. This move was quite surprising, especially given California’s and Silicon Valley’s traditionally left-leaning tendencies. Notably, both Marc and Ben voted for the Democrats in the last four elections. While listening to their podcast, “The Ben & Marc Show,” during my run today, I was struck by their starkly negative view of Europe. They discussed the significant challenges Europe, particularly Germany, faces due to stringent regulatory environments and adverse energy policies. They argued that the EU’s application of the precautionary principle is stifling innovation by “trying to stop the future before it happens.” Moreover, they pointed out that Germany’s aggressive stance against its domestic energy industry over the past 40 years has led to de-industrialization, essentially destroying its own energy sector. Marc Andreessen commented, “Europe is the warning sign in this because the Germans, over the course of the last 40 years, just declared war on their domestic energy industry.” This aligns with my own long-standing view that Europe is losing ground at an accelerating pace. The Americans see this, and it’s unfortunate for us that we have positioned ourselves with a bureaucratic nightmare in Brussels that only knows how to regulate, and then regulate some more. I highly recommend watching their show: https://lnkd.in/dyqj3wJH
