2H Huawei and Humor "There's no way the US can crush us. The world cannot leave us because we are more advanced. Even if they persuade more countries not to use us temporarily, we can always scale things down a bit." "I can summarize the painful lesson in one sentence: We must not slack off or allow mediocrity, and we must remain dedicated and inspire passion throughout the organization." "Academic freedom is the foundation of innovation. The freedom to have different academic ideas and to study whatever you want is very important. Undoubtedly, the US has the world's most innovation-friendly environment. Thanks to the Internet, people have easier access to information. Science and engineering papers have nothing to do with ideology, so they can be published and shared all over the world." Ren Zhengfei, founder of Huawei

Interesting Discovery by Guan Hong Tan, seems like Singapore Universities don't teach in-depth Electronics Circuitry Design anymore; or rather, they do Research in new Science. While basic fundamentals might be highlighted, Industrialization skillset is lacking and hence the inability to achieve robustness and hardening for Practical applications. Singapore Ministry of Education MOE doesn't certify Universities curriculum, because no Teacher at MOE HQ can be qualified to do so as Subject Matter Expert, certainly not Applied into Industry, while No Practitioner invited to assist. The gap between Research and Applied has increased tremendously since pre-covid, likely Gen-AI, Computer Science and the New IT take precedence - No longer vocational SkillsFuture within Tertiary Education System. My greatest fear and worry, can Singapore Manufacturing sector survive this drought of vocational training as SkillsFuture? Let's hear from you 🌱

#NYCU Partners with VIS to Launch #Digital #Semiconductor Course: Advancing Educational Equity and Providing Quality Resources for Remote and Offshore #High Schools National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (#NYCU) in Taiwan has joined forces with Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation (#VIS) to create the “Introduction to Semiconductor Principles and Manufacturing” digital learning course for high school students. The digital course helps bridge the gap in the educational resources between urban and rural areas, providing valuable teaching support for remote and offshore high schools. Launched in the 2024 academic year, the course has already been adopted by 44 high schools as part of their elective curricula, with enrollment surpassing 1,000 students. NYCU’s Digital Course Empowers #Remote #High Schools in Semiconductor Education Ken-Zen Chen, Deputy Director of NYCU’s Higher Education Resources for Openness (#HERO) Research Center, highlighted that urban high schools, with abundant resources and proximity to universities, often find it easier to offer diverse electives. In contrast, remote and offshore schools face significant challenges in tailoring elective courses to student needs. Interoperability in higher education refers to the ability for partner universities to seamlessly and securely share data across institutional and national boundaries. By allowing diverse systems to talk to each other and share information efficiently, there is the potential among networks of institutions to develop and expand access to common learning opportunities. Progress – and the challenges that come with this – are especially apparent within European Universities alliances, where the ambition to establish virtual campuses and scale up mobility have generated impetus in moving towards interoperable systems. This briefing presents the experiences of practitioners within EUA member universities and looks at some of the more commonly-experienced obstacles. Beyond the technical elements, it highlights the converging factors that have brought the topic to the forefront of discussion and explores possible scenarios for the evolution of interoperability within and beyond the European Universities alliances. Higher education increasingly relies on digital surveillance in the United States. By digitally monitoring and managing campus life, institutions can supposedly run their services more efficiently—yet in practice, these initiatives often perpetuate long-standing injustices within the university system. Aimed at anyone concerned with the future of surveillance on higher education, "Smart University" empowers readers with the knowledge, tools, and frameworks for contesting and reimagining the role of digital technology on university campuses. https://lnkd.in/eASqdYi7

Semiconductor Talent Recruitment: National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Visits Stanford and Berkeley The president of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (#NYCU) in Taiwan, Lin Chi-Hung, went to Silicon Valley in Northern California last week to recruit talent, hoping that graduates who study in the United States can return to Taiwan after graduation and contribute their technological talents to the semiconductor industry. The university pointed out that not only is the technology industry short of talent, but domestic universities also face the problem of aging faculty. Taking NYCU as an example, about 58% of the faculty within the establishment are over 50 years old. At this time, young and middle-aged talents are most needed, but the continuous downsizing of higher education may impact the competitiveness of higher education and industry. https://lnkd.in/gpQxJuuU #NYCU https://lnkd.in/grfsFwK6

In the spirit of collaboration and progress, the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA) is proud to spotlight a significant milestone achieved during the Committee of Supply 2024 debate. Minister Alvin Tan's address, "Partnering Singaporeans to Shape a Better Singapore," underscored the transformative power of mentorship in navigating the pivotal transitions of our youth, particularly within the educational and career landscapes. The mention of the Mentoring SG initiative, launched in December 2022, marks a commendable stride towards enriching the lives of our future generations. Through the collective effort of 100 corporates, 2,000 skilled mentors, and the engagement of over 5,000 youths, Mentoring SG has woven a network of guidance and support that stands testament to our community's commitment to growth and development. SSIA's collaboration with Mentoring SG at the recent Electronics Industry Day held this January ITE College Central was a highlight, showcasing the semiconductor industry's pivotal role in inspiring the next generation. The event featured a "flash mentoring" program by employees from Micron Technology Electronics, offering ITE students a firsthand glimpse into the #semiconductor and #precision #engineering sectors. The enthusiasm and curiosity sparked among the students underscore the significant impact such initiatives have on shaping career aspirations and understanding industry relevance. As we continue to forge ahead, the SSIA, along with our partners and the wider semiconductor community, remains dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering a robust ecosystem that not only supports #Singapore's economic landscape but also empowers our youths to explore innovative and fulfilling career paths. Watch this space for exciting opportunities to get involved and help shape the future of our industry and country. https://lnkd.in/gzphYXm8 #Semiconductor #Innovation #TechMentorship #STEMEducation #FutureOfWork #SingaporeTech #EngineeringExcellence #DigitalTransformation #YouthDevelopment #industry4_0 #industry4
