Attending the Learning and Education Technologies Conference 2024 has widened my perspective on how we approach learning in today’s fast-changing environment. One of my key takeaways is the importance of personalised learning journeys. By tailoring learning experiences to individual needs, we can drive greater engagement and more meaningful growth. Another insight is the value of being a self-directed learner. In a world where 50% of current skills may soon become obsolete, it’s crucial to take ownership of our personal and professional development. Equally important is finding your inspiration to stay motivated throughout the journey. Finally, I’ve realised that we can consider to prioritise agility over efficiency. The ability to adapt quickly, in addition to efficiency, is increasingly important in the workplace as we face constant change. How has the conference or new technology shaped your learning or HR practices? I’d love to hear your thoughts! #HRDecodedAI #ThePeopleDecoder #HRMASia #ArtFlow #FutureOfWork #KstherLim

What if focus groups could double as learning platforms? That's exactly what I discovered during our research at Maastricht University for my MSc Thesis! Together with Professor Margje van de Wiel and Silvia Zankova, we conducted 6 focus group sessions (3 groups, 2 sessions each) for 19 university support staff, that effectively served two purposes: 1️⃣ Collecting data about workplace learning experiences to be shared with the HR department. 2️⃣ Creating an active learning environment where employees could exchange knowledge and learn from each other's experiences. While participants shared how they learn, what opportunities they see, what difficulties they face and how they'd like to be supported by the organisation, they were simultaneously discovering new perspectives and possibilities through their peers. 🌟 Key findings: - Employees value autonomy in their learning journeys but need clearer communication about available resources. 📚 - Staff actively seek opportunities to develop competencies when given proper support. 🚀 - Peer-to-peer knowledge sharing creates powerful learning moments. 🤝 The results of our research were communicated to management and the HR department to help improve internal processes and better align employee needs with organisational support. 🏆 Most valuable insight? Sometimes the best way to understand how people learn is to create an environment where they can learn from each other. The focus groups weren't just about collecting data; they became an opportunity for effective workplace learning in action. 💡 #WorkplaceLearning #EmployeeEngagement #LearningCulture #OrganisationalDevelopment #EmployeeDevelopment #KnowledgeSharing #PeerLearning #ContinuousImprovement #HRInsights

We are so excited to announce the release of the Human Progress Report! The first of its kind for us, we partnered with The Harris Poll to investigate and interrogate the future of human progress: the barriers to success, what’s working today, and where the world needs improvement. To develop this picture, we surveyed 17,000 participants across 17 countries. Here are the key takeaways: 📝 88% of people believe that continuous learning is essential for success in today’s world. 📈 Upskilling is the currency of the future: organizations and governments must invest in training for existing employees. 🎓 4 out of 5 people believe credentials and skills measurement will be as valuable as a college degree by 2035. ⚡ Two thirds of people have trust in AI-driven evaluations and assessments. What does this mean for the future? Organizations, institutions, and governments — we must all work together to shape a future where continuous skill development and fair assessments propel us towards unlimited human progress and prosperity for all. Interested in any of these topics? Read the report and share your thoughts below 👇 #HumanProgressReport #Assessment #Measurement

McKinsey & Co. identified 56 Distinct Areas of Talent (DELTAs) in the areas of Cognitive skills, Interpersonal skills, Self-leadership skills, and Digital skills. The top skills that will be in demand in the future are technological, social and emotional, and higher cognitive skills. McKinsey's research found that the four DELTAs most strongly associated with high incomes were "work-plan development" (cognitive), "asking the right questions" (cognitive), "self-confidence" (self-leadership), and "organizational awareness" (interpersonal). How can adults learn these skills? First, adult learners must see why a topic is useful and how a skill can be applied. Second, education systems may need to be revamped to include more soft-skills training. Finally, training provided by employers must be intentional and focused with a clear goal/purpose. What do you expect the employee to understand and do after the training? Employees must understand why DELTA proficiency is needed. As skills-based employment becomes more popular, each of us must embrace the mindset of being a lifelong learner; how to provide continuous learning and how to be a continuous learner.

Organizations today face an overwhelming challenge: balancing rapid technological advancements, evolving workforce dynamics, and increasing talent complexities. As the L&D team, we often feel the pressure to close skills gaps and solve talent issues across the business. One of the key insights from our 2024 High-Impact Learning Organization research is that the more L&D is isolated from the business, the less effective it becomes. Choosing a learning operating model that enhances collaboration with the business isn't just a nice-to-have—it's a strategic priority. By building strong partnerships and aligning learning with business needs, L&D functions can gain deeper insights, improve learning outcomes, and stay ahead of shifting priorities. To succeed, L&D teams must move beyond traditional approaches, embrace data-driven decisions, and enable collaboration across the organization. What are your thoughts on this? Have you experienced the impact of L&D teams being more integrated with the business, or perhaps the opposite? I'd love to hear how your organization has approached aligning learning initiatives with business priorities, and what challenges or successes you've encountered along the way. Let’s discuss! 👇 #LearningAndDevelopment #BusinessCollaboration #FutureOfWork #LDOperatingModel

I've been having a lot of conversations about skills, capabilities, and the management techniques that are coming in the future. It's interesting with the constant changes in the world, and the speed in which technology is advancing - it's almost impossible for our workforces to keep up with the demand of learning. HRs focus will need to be on the development of deep skills and capability understanding for strategic delivery (both for now, and future state), and designing strategies to forecast and enhance learning opportunities to meet the speed in which our teams will need to develop. The great news is if we can achieve that speed, we're also meeting the biggest desire of the workforce today - which is development. What are you observing in the skills and capability areas of your workforce strategies at the moment?
