The Government has announced that it won't be enforcing a four-day working week on employers but is instead pushing for more flexible working arrangements. At Welsh ICE, we believe flexibility is the way forward to create a happier and more productive workplace! 🌟 For example, our awesome training coordinators often work outside of regular hours, so they have the freedom to manage their hours in a way that works best for them. Sometimes, that even means a four-day week! 🌈 I personally work Sunday to Thursday due to childcare, which, although I'm still working full-time hours, it feels more like a four-day week, which has been a game-changer! 💪 We also have a long-standing team member giving the four-day week a go at the moment, to see how it fits their workload. 🧪 Of course, some roles are a bit trickier, like our incredible receptionist, who needs to be in the hub more regularly. But we’re all about teamwork, so we pitch in to make sure everyone can enjoy some flexibility! 🤝 This brings up some interesting questions for me: Should a four-day working week be a one-size-fits-all, or should we keep it flexible depending on the role? 🤔 How can businesses balance flexibility with the need for certain roles to be more consistently present? ⚖️ I’d love to hear your thoughts! Drop your opinions below! 💬 👉 Could a four-day week work for you or your team? 👉 What do you think are the biggest benefits or challenges of more flexible working? #FourDayWorkWeek #FlexibleWorking #WorkLifeBalance #Productivity #FutureOfWork #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork #WelshICE #InnovationAtWork #HappyTeams Steve Burt Annie Browne Keiran Russell Rachel Harris Tomas Phillips Patrick Valentino Olivia Baxter-Lloyd Hope Eckley Steven Platts Ellie Collins Georgia Roberts Ben Braddick Owen Butcher Cat Chandler City AM The Telegraph Perpetual Guardian Charlotte L. Do you answer emails when on holiday? A recent article on HR News has shed light on a concerning trend in the world of annual leave. According to the study, over 75% of Brits admit to responding to work emails even when on holiday. Additionally, the survey highlighted a concerning trend of managers contacting employees during their vacation time. Almost 40% of respondents reported that their manager has reached out to them about work or even revoked their annual leave without good reason. This not only undermines employees' much-needed rest but also raises questions about respect for work-life boundaries. This raises questions about work-life balance and the pressure to always stay connected in today's fast-paced work environment. As we navigate the ever-evolving work landscape, it is important for businesses to ensure good work-life balance practices and respect employees' need for time off. Encouraging a healthy culture that supports unplugging and recharging can lead to higher productivity, job satisfaction, and overall well-being. Let's work towards fostering a work environment where annual leave is truly seen as a time for rest and rejuvenation. #WorkLifeBalance #AnnualLeave #HR #Recruitment #HumanResources #Holiday

What if I told you a compressed workweek could offer you: - An extra day off each week without reducing your pay. - More time for family, hobbies, personal tasks, or rest to improve your work-life balance. - Less time stuck in traffic and more time enjoying life. - Higher productivity by working smarter, not harder. - A competitive edge in attracting and retaining top talent. A compressed workweek offers these benefits, making it a win-win for both employees and employers. The government plans to strengthen the right to request a four-day week by making it harder for employers to refuse, potentially making these benefits a reality for more workers. Would you consider it for your workforce? #ESG #ClimateChange #Sustainability #wellbeing #mentalhealth

Creating a workplace that respects individual needs starts with flexible holiday policies. By allowing employees to choose holidays that resonate with their personal or cultural backgrounds, such as adapting hours for those honoring Ramadan traditions, we enhance morale and promote a sense of belonging. #DiverseWorkplace #InclusiveCulture #FlexibleWorkPolicy #Ramadan #FlexibleWork

Are you tempted to check emails during your holiday? And if you are, who is accountable for having the need to check? Personally I have done both checking of emails and completely switching off, and in my opinion the accountability doesn't solely lie in one place. As individual's we are definitely accountable for the actions we take, and the organisation's culture has an impact on how we behave as humans. If it has become a norm that colleagues messages colleagues during their time off (and expects an answer) then it creates an environment where the "always on" is expected. There's two things I would immediately look at: 1. Your own reflections on why you check your emails. Is this due to your own identity and self value through your work? Can you start by only checking the emails once and move to not checking at all? 2. Identify ways in which you can adapt the culture at work. Do leaders switch off completely on their holidays? Are they leading by example? Do you communicate effectively that people have full authority to switch off completely? Having a culture where people feel safe and valued even if they are on holiday and switch off completely is achievable and takes time to achieve. However it can only be done through everyone being onboard and wanting that change. Ultimately rested people are more productive people.
Dreaming of a relaxing holiday, but work keeps creeping in? You’re not alone! 👇 According to a new survey, more than 75% of employees in the UK respond to work emails while on holiday and 1 in 8 don’t take their full allowance of annual leave (HR News). In our constantly connected world, it's tempting to check emails or answer calls while on holiday. While flexibility to work anytime, anywhere sounds great, it can blur the lines between work and personal life, making it hard to truly disconnect. This "always-on" mentality not only hurts employee productivity, but also impacts their mental and physical health. As an employer, it is important to lead by example by encouraging leaders to disconnect during their annual leave and to promote work-life balance. By fostering a culture of respect for personal time, you can create a happier, healthier, and more productive workforce! #wellbeing #worklifebalance #employeeretention

As the chilly winds start to blow, I know many of us are getting ready to swap the cold for some warmer holiday adventures! Managing staff leave during this popular travel time can be tricky, but here's how we can all handle it with a smile: ✈️ I always encourage my team to plan their vacations and let me know about their leave dates well in advance. It helps us all prepare better and ensures no one is scrambling at the last minute. 💻 Establish a super user-friendly digital leave management system. It's a game-changer, making it so much easier for everyone to check available leave slots and schedule their downtime. 🏝️ Transparency is key! Make sure everyone knows who's out of office and when. It really helps in planning work and knowing who to reach out to for help. 🧘♀️ Promote a culture where taking leave is totally encouraged. After all, we all deserve a break, and coming back recharged can only mean great things for our work. Planning well can make the holiday season fun inside and outside the office. #humanresourcemanagement #humanresources #humanresource #hr #humanresourcesmanagement #business #hrm #hrsolutions #management #hrmanagement #hrtech #leadership #hrconsulting #hrmanager #employeeengagement #hrconsultant #humanresourcesconsulting #hrtips #humanresourcesmanager #hrservices
