🌟 What an exhilarating experience diving into what HR truly means on Willory's "HR Like a Boss" podcast! Reflecting on my evolution in HR, I've come to see our role not just in terms of compliance and recruitment but as pivotal in crafting a culture that mirrors and drives business objectives forward. It's all about understanding that businesses are fundamentally about people. 💼 A standout moment for me was sharing my hands-on experience with an online grocery delivery service, stepping into the shoes of frontline employees. This not only gave me invaluable insights into the challenges they face but also highlighted the critical role of HR in genuinely connecting with and empowering employees to align with business goals. 🛒 I also had the chance to talk about Paylocity's podcast "HR Mixtape", a passion project aimed at fostering a community where HR professionals can have real, insightful chats about the challenges, growth opportunities, and, sometimes, the tough, sticky questions we encounter. 🎧 You can find it on all the major podcast players. A must-listen! Let's rethink HR! The term "Human Resources" feels outdated to me. I’d love to see it replaced with something that emphasizes people empowerment. These two women represent the kind of 'HR' I love working with—no-BS professionals who understand HR is a business function, not just about being "people-people." You don’t have to be overly empathetic to succeed in this role. HR, like Finance, Operations, IT, and Marketing, belongs at the leadership table, driving real business outcomes. Especially for companies under 100 employees, resetting how you think about HR is crucial. Sure, you can have someone handling the admin tasks without deep HR expertise. But that person is no substitute for having a trained executive in the room when it comes to making key decisions about your most valuable asset ... your people! Not every company needs a full-time CHRO, but having access to one is vital. A fractional CHRO is the smartest way to ensure growth and scaling are done right from the start. Fixing mistakes later is costly and frustrating. Bringing a CHRO on board for even 5-10 hours a week—or monthly—can be the most cost-effective way to get expert guidance without overextending your budget.
