This report is a really excellent short summary of the housing situation in Scotland today with some pithy, pragmatic and insightful recommendations for moving towards zero carbon. I'd urge housing providers and local authority policy planners to read it. What stunned me, though, was that not a single social housing association was present for this conference a couple of months ago, or even the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations. https://lnkd.in/eP2zwuWU Bryan Harris Martin Callachan. We’re featured in Inside Housing! 📰✨ James Riding spoke to our CEO Rob Boughton about the need to scale up the delivery of Zero Bills homes and bring down the additional costs of associated sustainable technologies 🏡⚡ They also discussed how the UK can build more affordable Zero Bills homes, with adoption currently low with housing associations, councils and social landlords due to social and affordable rent caps. “We’ve got the ability to deliver net-zero homes. Why aren’t we? Let’s make this work for the affordable sector. Let’s give them a bit of energy savings back, so they can have it as rent, and they can do it across all new homes they’re delivering. If we do that at scale, it brings the cost down of every battery and every solar panel and every air source heat pump.” Read Rob’s interview in full: https://lnkd.in/eGd56Fvq #InsideHousing #ZeroBills

"Of the 2.4mn homes in England that BRE identified as having a Category 1 hazard, there are 700,000 homes that are officially assessed as excessively cold." Housing Digital has quoted our Cost of Poor Housing research while discussing the actions that housing providers can take do to make life easier for tenants throughout the #costoflivingcrisis. Citing our findings that 5% of social rented homes have a Category 1 hazard, resulting in an annual cost to the #NHS of £65m if left unmitigated, read full article by Tim Clark: https://lnkd.in/e-hQiimg Ofgem Energy Saving Trust National Housing Federation #netzero #builtenvironment Helen Garrett

🏠 The most recent wave of Warm Homes Fund applications have now closed - and its aims of reducing carbon emissions across social housing remain essential as the UK looks to hit its environmental targets. But do the people living in the homes subject to the retrofit works involved in decarbonisation care as much as we do? Well, yes - but it’s important to keep social housing residents engaged from the beginning. When Novus undertakes decarbonisation works, residents often tell us that they understand the importance of reducing emissions, and look forward to their bills being more manageable too. But the short term inconvenience of the work can lead to frustration. That’s why we work with our clients and partners to help residents fully appreciate why these works are necessary, and what benefits they will bring to those living in more energy-efficient homes. Energy efficiency improvements in Coventry reach key milestone as work completes on 500 homes. Last year, Citizen was successful in wave two of the Government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund alongside Coventry City Council to carry out energy efficiency works to 2,000 homes across the city, receiving a £23.8m grant. The housing association added a further £44m to create a £67.6m investment. The money is being spent on energy efficiency improvement works to bring the homes up to an energy rating of a C. Citizen customer Arthur Beale says: "I am very happy with the work — my house is much warmer now it’s been done. I don’t have to put the heating on as much as I did before the works which is a bonus and the work on the outside of the home makes it look much better too." Chief Operating Officer at Citizen Mads Nelson says: "It’s fantastic that we have reached this milestone and completed energy efficiency works on 500 homes and are so pleased to hear the positive feedback from Arthur. At Citizen we are committed to working with our partners to make a positive difference to our customers and create better quality homes — and this project has made a huge difference to our customers with an average saving of £250 in fuel once the works are complete." https://lnkd.in/ewrT24UZ #socialhousing #decarbonisation #funding #retrofit #energyefficiency #housingassociation #council #milestone #housing
