Climate change and extreme weather events: not only that it costs billions of euros due to infrastructure losses and damage, it costs more and more lives. Further delays and postponement of bold climate action would costs us even more. So don't even think about it. https://lnkd.in/drX7P2wx

No one should surprised by the headline "Global heating ‘doubled’ chance of extreme rain in Europe in September" 🌧️ Researchers found global heating aggravated the four days of heavy rainfall that led to deadly floods in countries from Austria to Romania. ⛈️ The rains were made at least 7% stronger by climate change, which led to towns being hit with volumes of water that would have been half as likely to occur if humans had not heated the planet. #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #Floods https://lnkd.in/ewTkPQFj

Jordan is entering the sea water desalination world like all other countries in the Middle East that are suffering from the dry climate and climate change, which has caused more drought periods in the last decades. "Rising Lightning Strikes: A Consequence of Climate Change" Increased #LightningStrikes: A Result of #ClimateChange" explores how #globalwarming is intensifying atmospheric conditions, leading to more frequent and powerful #thunderstorms, which in turn result in more lightning. Warmer temperatures cause more evaporation, increasing moisture in the atmosphere and creating the perfect conditions for storm formation. Additionally, rising humidity levels and changing wind patterns contribute to the instability necessary for generating lightning. Climate change is also linked to more extreme #weather events, further amplifying. the likelihood of lightning strikes in various regions across the globe. #environment #seasons

Commonly accepted explanation for modern day droughts is that due to climate change we get less rainfall and that is why we have less water. Below picture is the average rainfall data in Azerbaijan from 1923 to 2022 (Source: https://lnkd.in/gJsvGK9m). The dotted line is the trendline. It appears climate change did not affect the amount of rainfall after all. We pump more water from the rivers and underground reserves than ever before and we still face droughts. Something appears to be broken in our water cycle and it is not the amount of rainfall. What is it?

Natural disasters are becoming more frequent and intense, reminding us of our dependency on Mother Nature—something we often take for granted. We have been withdrawing from her resources as if they are limitless. That brings me to reflect: sustainability reporting is meant to guide corporations toward responsible actions, yet challenges like greenwashing and data manipulation for carbon credits distract from the true mission. Are we losing sight of the purpose behind these frameworks? Hopefully, we can learn and act before even more severe consequences arise.
Climate change is making hurricanes more powerful & dangerous. Storm surges are higher due to sea level rise caused by climate change. Higher temperatures also mean heavier rain & flooding during storms. We must #ActNow and take #ClimateAction to protect our planet & or future: http://un.org/actnow

🇺🇳 Changing weather patterns, rising sea levels and the increased threat of frequent and devastating climate shocks, such as extreme weather events and flooding, are creating a toxic mixture of threats for the Solomon Islands’ population of 720,000 people. 🇸🇧 How UNCDF is helping: https://uncdf.link/SIEU

Extreme weather hit Europe during the Easter weekend, with unusually high temperatures recorded in southern Italy, Spain, and France. Floods occurred in France, accompanied by strong southerly winds carrying Saharan dust across the Mediterranean all the way up to Germany. These phenomena are mostly strengthened by human-driven climate change. For more details, refer to #ClimaMeter. https://lnkd.in/dAnMQE8V
