My #InsuranceStory: I went to college for Criminal Justice and Arabic. Super insurancey right?!?! WRONG! I worked in various #jobs in Probation and Parole, Corrections as well as a social worker after I graduated. They were all jobs to me. I went overseas and became a defense contractor. I was responsible for going off base and surveying battle damaged vehicles and bringing them back to base for retrograde or disposing of them. Essentially material damage adjusting or field auto appraising of multi-million dollar vehicles. I was getting ready to come home and end my second contract and I put an application at Erie Insurance Group. Why? Advice from my Father: "If you're going to come back to your hometown, you might as well work at the best company in your hometown while you figure out what you want to do next." Little did I know what would come next is 11 great years with the organization, countless friendships and partnerships. Insurance was meant to be a stepping stone to something else. It was a stepping stone into a great company and life. Have you ever considered #insurance? Sick of just surviving in a job? Click below to see where you could thrive with an #insurancecareer. Work for a company that's never had a layoff. Nope. Not one in our 99 years in business. What's your insurance story? #HappyBirthday #ERIEemployee
Today, ERIE celebrates our 99th Anniversary. While next year is a big milestone, it doesn't take away from the fact that we're proud to provide our customers with the same service today that we gave in 1925.

https://lnkd.in/geVgq5pi #InsuranceStory: I went to school for Business Administration having no clue what career I wanted to pursue. One day while in the library at SUNY Oswego (which didn't happen very often! lol), I decided to look at a book that outlined different careers you could pursue with a 4-year Business Administration Degree. I came across "Insurance Underwriter" which sounded interesting. It was at that moment I decided I wanted to try and get a "leg up" by gaining some insurance experience through an internship. Not knowing the difference between an insurance carrier or agency, I decided to open the phonebook yellow pages (an actual printed book that listed all businesses by category from A-Z, lol) and solicit each insurance business asking if they'd be willing to hire a college intern for the summer. Low and behold, I received a call back from a local prominent independent agency who was willing to bring me in. I spent the summer processing personal lines policies and backing up our claims department by taking claims calls. I continued to work at the agency throughout my senior year of college and during my spring semester, I attended thirteen 8-hour Saturdays of insurance licensing classes. By the time I graduated college, I was a licensed Property Casualty Insurance Broker. I was hired by this agency as a personal-lines insurance broker after graduation, and that is how I began my insurance career! That was 30 years ago and since that time I have held various insurance roles on both the agency and carrier side of the insurance business. I have worked in personal, commercial, life, financial services and surety lines of business. Almost two years ago, I had the opportunity to join Erie Insurance Group as a Senior District Sales Manager in Central New York. I quickly learned what an amazing culture Erie exhibits and I'm SO PROUD to work for such a tremendous organization and the amazing agents that represent us!! Have you ever considered #insurance? Some dates are always special such as today, the date when we launched Silver Talkies Club six years ago in 2018, based on the inputs from attendees of our events. They wanted to meet more often, know their co-participants better and have more fun and engaging opportunities. Hence Silver Talkies Club was born in a time and age when active ageing, loneliness and isolation among older adults were not spoken about or discussed much in our country. I was in fact told by many peers that I was playing in a small niche field. Fast forward to 2024, almost every new player in the senior care space is looking at addressing similar issues with similar models. Did we start too early or did they start too late? I think it is immaterial for as they say that all's well that ends well. What is most heartening for me is to note that in the pic below all the people who became members in 2018 are still members in 2024, with the exception of one member whom we lost a few months ago. Six years of relationship still doing strong! So we must be doing something right:) Cheers to healthy ageing! #olderadults #activeageing #seniorcare #healthyageing #anniversary
Six incredible years have flown by, and today we're celebrating a remarkable milestone - Happy 6th Anniversary to the Silver Talkies Family! A heartfelt shoutout to each and every one of our amazing members who've been with us since day one, your support and enthusiasm have been the driving force behind our journey. While we celebrate our triumphs, we also remember our dear friend and pioneer member, Arun Bhatia, whose spirit continues to inspire us every day. And a special mention to Akila Krishnakumar, our beacon of wisdom and guidance, thank you for being our mentor and advisor throughout this incredible journey. Here's to many more years of laughter, learning, and cherished memories together!

Today marks my 13th Anniversary as a member of The Brydens Group. I feel privileged to have had the chance to collaborate with influential individuals who have enabled me to forge a fulfilling path while contributing value to the organization. Reflecting on my journey, if you had asked me at the outset if I envisioned myself in my current role, I would likely have answered affirmatively. I have always been driven and recognized the unique skillset I possess and how it can effectively be utilized. My philosophy includes volunteering my talents where I believe they can make a difference, regardless of personal gain. This approach has not only opened doors to unforeseen opportunities but also allowed me to display abilities beyond my designated responsibilities. At Brydens, I have transitioned from Brand Manager to Business Development Manager and now Group Corporate Affairs Manager—a career trajectory that aligns perfectly with my aspirations. Each role has been a learning experience, allowing me to refine my skills and maintain a perpetual sense of excitement. Ultimately, it boils down to comprehending your value. In essence, if you view yourself as a brand, what principles do you stand for? My journey highlights the significance of hard work, belief, and being a bit of a dreamer. Defining your identity and ensuring that you consistently deliver on it is paramount. As I celebrate 13 years with Brydens with great enthusiasm, I hope, in your journey, you too have a narrative of growth and self-discovery, where you have carved out opportunities by recognizing your inherent value. Celebrating my 2-year Anniversary as a Business Owner To say that time flies is an understatement. September marks two years for me as a small business owner. I am deeply grateful for all of those who continue to help me on this journey, and the many clients who have trusted me to serve their needs. I am joyfully celebrating the career I designed that plays to my strengths and honors my values. Here are some of the valuable lessons I learned along the way… 1. Don’t take yourself too seriously – embrace humility. 2. When you have a bad day, lift someone else up. 3. Be an advocate for others. 4. Be willing to ask for help and offer to help others. 5. Your best laid plans will change – be ready to pivot and be resilient. 6. Your value is not measured by the hours worked but the impact you make. 7. Play is a connection to creativity. 8. Rest is an investment in your wellbeing. 9. Prioritize time to think, reflect, and dream – this unlocks energy, focus and productivity. 10. Take good care of your body – your life depends on it. Onwards to another year of personal and professional growth and a commitment to wellbeing, wisdom, and wonder!

I am Founding Member #67 of 93% Professionals and I highly recommend it for corporate membership and individual professionals. Corporate membership is obviously most helpful for the charity, and well done Slaughter and May for being one of the 93% Professionals Founding Member Firms 👏 What do I enjoy most about 93% Professionals? ✔️ The warm and active online Slack community where state-educated professionals both within their own sector and across sectors can chat and exchange ideas ✔️ The weekly round-up emails - love a bit of know-how and they are fun ✔️ Numerous and well-organised opportunities to meet in person There are many other benefits - see post below - but these are my favourites. Being a member of 93% Professionals also - obviously - sends a strong signal that state-educated talent is welcome where you work. Easy to forget that this isn’t always obvious to those looking in to high-prestige employers. Being a member of 93% Professionals works well for professionals of all ages and I personally think it would be GREAT for state-educated solicitor apprentices.. #StateSchoolProud Sophie Pender Fin Wright Imogen Carr Ellie Wardrope
